Kyrsten Sinema leaving the Democratic Party

What an ingrate. Runs as a Dem, with Dem support, and now she says she wants to register as an “Independent.” She better not screw up the Dems’ 51-49 position in the Senate…

Semina is doing what is best for Arizona. She has more power today than she had yesterday.

Politically it's not the smart thing to do...you end up with less in your war chest if you go as an independent.

And she did it when her turn in the barrel is coming up. I get that you don't want her to leave the party. But tell me where I'm wrong.

I don’t think it’s best for Arizona to have a senator without major party backing. I think she’s going “independent” because she knows she would be primaried as a Dem. She is doing this to serve her own interests.

Perfectly valid opinions.

But lets look at what happened.

The primary is at least 16 months away. I don't know if she's raising money but she probably is. Wouldn't it have been easier to go on for 8 months or so and raise the money as a Democrat then come up with some benign reason to switch to independent with a few hundred million in the war chest?

I admire how she changed prior to 2024 instead of just doing the cut and run after the election--where do you think Dr. Oz slept last night...in New Jersey I'm sure; not Pennsylvania.

I don’t think she could raise more money as a Dem and spend it if she ran as an indie. Even if she could given the campaign finance laws, that would basically be fraud. Not a good look when running for Senate.

If she planned to do a cut and run after the election she would still have to go through being primaried.

We’re speculating as to her motives, of course, but I think she’s being driven by her own self-interests. You better take that halo off her head!

OMG, a dem politician or any politician working for their own self interest

here's another one doing that

A Democratic congresswoman just joined the long list of lawmakers who've violated a federal conflict-of-interest law (msn.com)

Bugsy. This what happens when you're too lazy to read beyond a headline. Schumer is letting sinema keep her committee asignments, and she continues to caucus with the democrats. A s a green party member, shes moving left, not towards the center.

Take the rest of the day off and devote it to reading, not ranting
Sinema has told news outlets that she’s not going to caucus with the GOP but that she may not caucus with Democrats. She told Politico that she will not attend the weekly Democrat caucus meetings.

Actually, this is what my linked article says about that:

“While Sanders and King formally caucus with Democrats, Sinema declined to explicitly say that she would do the same.”

So, it appears that the person who “didn’t read beyond the headline” was….you! Her position on caucusing was not made plain until after that article.

I will graciously accept your apology.

I'm one of the deplorables lefty warns you about.
She just became the most powerful person in the Senate. Brilliant move on her part. Schumer doesn't dare strip her of her committee's assignments, he has to kiss her ass now.

It'll be really interesting to see what Joe Manchin decides to do now. Since Manchin was last elected, West Virginia flipped from Blue to Red. Does he win reelection by keeping the (D) behind his name?

Thom Hartmann claims part of her motivation stems from dodging a primary opponent in 2024. As an "Independent" she will turn the November election into a three way race with Kari Lake as the likely victor. Sinema then ride$ off into the $unset of a K-Street lobbying firm.

I don't deny that she's moving to keep her job.

There are hundreds of ways to be more devious about it than she was.
