I was audited in 1987. It wasn't settled for 6 years. The auditors were in California and Utah...and they couldn't agree on just how much I owed. They went back and forth over the amounts and it kept getting larger, as if there was a contest to come up with the better math. My accountant got a supervisor involved in "conflict resolution" and got it settled...but it took forever.
