El Paso, Texas 'at a breaking point' amid jump in migration, mayor says (yahoo.com)
America has plenty of food and clothing. Supermarkets are well stocked (except in certain LA and SF neighborhoods with mass shoplifting). The USA has charitable food banks. Even the post office has collection drives for the needy. And the last time I dropped things off at Goodwill, there was no shortage of clothing either. In fact, there are so many donated garments, the Goodwill organization puts most of them directly into shipping containers and sends them to Africa. Which is why we see TV footage of guys in refugee camps wearing western style suitcoats on chilly mornings.
What America doesn't have enough of is shelter. Housing. Two thousand migrants per day are showing up in El Paso alone. See link above.
Geeze Louise – if you send just one busload of illegal immigrants to NYC, Mayor Adams holds a press conference to show off his new robot police. Then hizzoner tries to put them on OTHER buses, intended for upstate NY locations. NYC was enjoined by the Federal Government last year from sending any more Latin American migrants to Canada. The latest plan in NY is . . . build a tent city on some uninhabited island in the East River and hope rising sea levels are a myth. Don't ask what the plan is once it starts to snow on these tents in December.
The president feels us. And Biden's advisors should be credited for getting one thing right. They sent him on Air Force One to Detroit, for a photo op with disgruntled autoworkers making $64,000 a year and demanding a $30,000 wage hike. No way was the president ever going to appear in El Paso. Not even a flyover to take a picture of migrants from 30,000 feet. Once the Detroit thing is solved, and we're back to an uninterrupted supply of Ford F150 platinum Lariat King Ranch Crew Cabs with 4 wheel drive, Biden will probably head to Hollywood. To join the writers union and SAG picket lines there so we can have an unlimited supply of MCU sequels and “oldest bachelor” reality shows. He's shoring up the traditional democrat voting base of union members and Hollywood.
Back to El Paso. Trump warned us. He didn't to an effing thing about it, but he DID warn America that we couldn't become the refugee destination for every nation which has a crazy dictator or is run by a drug cartel. Trump promised to make pay Mexico pay for a border wall. Never happened. Mexico's president – I think his nickname is AMLO Loco Pollo – is spending money to bus Venezuelans from their southern entry point to the El Paso border crossing. This is smart governance. It's not only cheaper than building a wall, it keeps Mexico from finding itself with millions of refugees penned up inside their own borders.
I didn't mean to sound AT ALL like I was praising Trump a moment ago. A sane person would have said “we are going to track down, arrest, and deport every alien with a warrant for murder, drug smuggling, human trafficking, armed robbery, carjacking, dog-fighting – you name it." Instead, someone lied to us and claimed that a few dozen miles of miles of border wall made from rusty shipping containers was going to work. That arrest/trial/deport plan would have still received howls of outrage from Sanctuary Cities, however. Places which up til now have welcomed various felony warrant suspects and shielded them from arrest.
The tide may be turning, however. And not just in NY, which already had full occupancy with its own native-born resident population of drug dealers and violent felons. Recent polls show Biden losing the 2024 election – by double digits – to Trump. Let's recall however that national pollsters have blown almost every election in our lifetimes. Including the one where they said Hillary would beat Trump by double digits. People love to prank pollsters, because they're so gullible. Still, if you're a Biden campaign advisor, you have to take this stuff seriously.
Two thousand new beds are needed per day, in El Paso. Actually, wherever El Paso sends them next. The routine for new migrants is to hold an impromptu hearing, give our newest arrivals a piece of paper for another court date 6 months in the future, then hope we never see them again. The universe will somehow absorb and provide for all the new people suddenly appearing.
The pope agrees. He recently posed with a bunch of white European heads of state, to remind them that there is no migrant crisis - anywhere - on planet earth. The Pope says there's enough food, goodwill clothing, and tents to go around. The pope, of course, lives inside a walled compound called Vatican City, with armed guards outside. And he has a solid gold horse-drawn-coach in his basement. As a reminder of Catholic Church looting in previous eras. So the Pope should be considered an authority on migrants, right?
I have to confess . . . I made up some stuff earlier. Specifically, Biden is probably NOT heading to Hollywood next. Unless Trump gets there first. Instead, Biden's campaign advisors are huddling furiously, trying to find a way to get their boss OFF the front page, and replace him with more pictures of Trump facing charges in another random courtroom. These days, it's what passes for governance, and attention to America's important issues. The most important thing is holding onto power, even when you don't know how to use it. No matter which political party you're from.
I'm just sayin' . . .
