2012, the best year for an Independent?

Dave

I am thinking that if someone with some good financial backing ran in 2012 as an Independent, they could win the presidency. Americans are fed up with republicans and democrats. They are fed up with the president, and fed up with Congress. Someone should run NOW as an independent, and they might just win it.

I wish I could believe that personally. There is only one 'independent' party getting recognized at this current time.

Right now, the only Independent I would vote for is Bernie Sanders.

After knowing how it went down with Ralph Nader, I don't put too much trust with the ability for an Independent politician to make decent head way in an election. Especially when right now, we, for the most part, are really partisan to our ideals.

I hope I am wrong. I am finding myself wanting to be wrong with this. I would like to see our country go back to multiple parties beyond 2 main parties with multiple parties listed on a ballot.

I don't think they even need a win 30% for an I would make both parties shit the bed!

I feel dumb, who is Bernie Sanders? I was thinking that we might be seeing John Huntsman run I too?

Yeah husky, 30% could do it.

I am with america at this point. We need to get the incumbetns out and have a fresh start. It would help to get a large number of independent candidates and and or a strong third party elected. That way there would maybe be an equalizer between the republicans and democrats that could work as deal brokers between the two parties. It may just put an end to all the party posturing that is going on without reguard to how it affects the country as a whole.

It's never a good year for an Independent to run. They are always spoilers for someone.

But this year is as good a year as any. I just don't see anyone poised to run as an independent that could take it. Ron Paul (bwahahaha); Sara Palin (I don't think so); Donald Trump (don't make me laugh); Gary Johnson (who?).

Nah.

Not going to work.

I've voted Libertarian, or for some other third party candidate at times. When I have, I've always understood that my vote was merely a protest and that I could have accomplished the same thing by simply not voting.

Most folks want their vote to count - even if they have to hold their nose while choosing what they consider to be the lesser of two evils.

Bernie is an Independent Senator. He is one of the smartest men in the Senate. A Socialist, but is he good.

Too old to run for President. If you listen to MSNBC at all, Bernie shows up every time there is a stupid fight in the Senate. Usually on Ed Schultz. Don't you dare ask me who Ed is! Just kidding!)

Not a chance. After the Ross Perot third party fiasco the Democratic Party and Republican Party leadership united to a certain extent on that issue to ensure that no viable third party or representative entity could ever come that close to winning again. The most that a third candidate could ever do from here on out is serve the traditional role of political spoiler.

Nader to help defeat an Obama and Ron Paul to help defeat -- for instance -- a Mitt Romney.

I would buy that Dave!

Every cycle is different. There's no chance in hell, of an Independent winning in this cycle. Nader/2000 is still WAY too fresh in the minds of the lefter half. Therefore, only a miniscule number of those otherwise inclined towards Obama, would vote for an Independent. In this particular cycle, an Independent could only hurt the GOP and thus help Obama. So by definition, the Independent couldn't win.

talk of an independent candidate is the 2012 mantra of disillusioned rightwingers.

help us bring back the old GOP....the sane party of yore.....by crushing them this year.

that's the only way to fix what's broken in what used to be a viable two-party system.

The timming is there, but....not the candidate, nor anything remotely akin to the Organizational Apparratus needed to get elected.

As far as I can tell, the last DECADE has been prime for a legitimate "Third" Party, and yet, the closest thing we have gotten is the TEA Party.

Libertarians will be certain to run a no-name (or, Low-name) protest Candidate, who can't win, though, just as they do every four years. Other than that, they have NOTHING, but complaints.......

IF they ever organized, and, hammered out a concise party platform (that would be the tough issue for Libertarians...), then they would already have several Congressmen and Senators serving, and, more on the way, in 2012.....
