Adam Schiff running for Senate

Ricky don’t like politicians in general Bugs I don’t think he is awful and find him fairly entertaining most of the time. I do think US Politics is kind of fun and interesting. I have followed politics for decades. A lot of interesting characters have emerged through the years. Some totally disgusting people but most have been respectable intelligent people who are trying to advance one agenda or another in good faith.
My view is that “hating politicians” is itself awful. Politicians are us. They are the core of what makes this democratic society we live in. What’s the alternative? Dictatorship? There’s no good faith, patriotic reason to “hate politicians” in my view. It’s very strange.

Please. He doesn’t get my goat, nor is he playing. That’s what he claims to actually believe. Just ask him.

And think about how toxic that warped view is - we elect politicians and they make our laws. Hating them as a group is just bizarre. A frontal assault on the essence of our nation.

Why in hell would anyone do that. I was in IT from 1975 to 2022. If I had taken 6 years off to be a Senator, who'd hire me after that break in focus on tech? If I had a private law practice....and shut it down for 6 years, how long would it be to restart it?

That means every turnover in a senate or house seat would mean trainees for what, a year?

One thing that should change is that House members should be in for a four year term. Two years makes for too short a term and an immediate start to fund raising upon winning.

Don't want your candidates to be in office, vote for someone else.
The House is mostly there to make noise anyway. A two-year term is better because it makes them more responsive. But better still would be to move to a much stronger approximation of direct democracy by having election by lottery.

We have term limits. Do a shitty job and voters limit your term.

What should change is the system of advantages that keep someone in office forever.
Toss citizens united. No more dark money.
Limit contributions to candidates the donor can vote for. If you don't vote in Colorado, you shouldn't be able to donate to candidates here.

Adding pork to legislation unrelated to the expenditure should be prevented.
Donation is free speech. The Citizens United ruling literally prevented a movie from being censored based on its viewpoint. If it is wrong because it distorts our political system to give advantages to those with money, the private property system is wrong for the same reason and to a much finer point.

Huh? I just wrote that Porter (former housewife) is preferable to the career teat-chomper. It would be cool to see Jack (or ANY lefty) take you to task on this sort of crap JUST ONCE.
The thing that prevented revolutionary Cuba for so many years from regressing into control by typical narrow-minded careerists, and which opened up political power for ordinary people during the early period of China’s Cultural Revolution, was that, pushed forward by the revolutionary working class, the popular revolutions that put the semi-Stalinist regimes in those countries in power pressed forward to overwhelm those regimes, pushing fresh blood to the fore, institutionalizing democratic reforms, and maintaining a proletarian class-war focus antithetical to the existence of hidebound privilege. The crucial lesson is that focusing on the forms of government is a strategic mistake since it leads to reactionary pitfalls and because the forms of government at bottom reflect the outcome of a more fundamental struggle, the international class struggle that is carried on only partly in the struggle for government. In fact what gave Cuba’s democratic initiatives such as rectification a so much more revolutionary character than the Cultural Revolution was largely that democratic reform in Cuba was a grassroots fight against the bureaucracy whereas in China democratic reform came from the top down as a maneuver by one wing of the bureaucracy against the other. We saw an even more pathetic spectacle in the USSR when the Khrushchev forces on the right pushed through top-down democratic reform to gain advantage against the Molotov faction on the left (though even here the masses backed the de-Stalinization campaign and took advantage of the fractures in the ruling caste to regain the political initiative). A fight aimed at creating a government of disinterested public servants presents a piquant picture of romantic frustration. A fight aimed at building socialism draws the noblest humanity has to offer into public service and creates a government that, like Cuba’s or the USSR’s in its revolutionary days, is always undercutting the ambitions of political careerists.

The alternative to the sham of bourgeois democracy and the spectacle of parasitical careerists it brings to the fore is of course the dictatorship of the proletariat in which someone like Pelosi who can become rich at the public trough because she cannot be dislodged from a sinecure for which she sold her political soul is replaced by someone like Fidel Castro whose petty personal ambitions can only be fulfilled by becoming the sort of zealous tribune of the people who is irreplaceable because at the first sign that anyone else would serve the public weal better the irresistible force of a ruling revolutionary class would sweep him into political oblivion.

As is a vote. If you can't vote in colorado...don't send your money here.

The old winger “video clip game.” The winger approach: there’s a lie in there somewhere. Go fish.

If you can rise above your games and assert a “Schiff lie,” do it. Quote him supposedly telling a lie. Explain why you claim it’s a lie.

I would wager long odds that you cannot meet this challenge.
Right the "video clip game" As if the words coming out of the lying ass-oles mouth was not evidence enough...

Stalin would have loved you.

You failed. Just as predicted. You’re limited to the winger video clip game.

The challenge is simple: give me your best case for a “Schiff lie.” Just one will do - your best case. A quote of what he said, and an explanation of why you claim it’s a lie.

Should be easy if he really lies. No can do?
