California voters passed Proposition 209, now enshrined in California's constitution, in 1996. The measure amended the California Constitution, adding a section that states in part, "The state shall not discriminate against, or grant preferential treatment to, any individual or group on the basis of race, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin in the operation of public employment, public education, or public contracting."
So for 27 years, California (at least on paper) has banned Affirmative Action discrimination. Is that OK with California liberals ? Not hardly. They want Proposition 209 eradicated out of the state constitution, and Affirmative Action discrimination to be re-installed. They claim that not having Affirmative Action is racial discrimination against blacks.
This could easily qualify for one of the various lunacies put forth by 2023 liberals, who have clearly lost their minds. These same scatterbrains are also demanding $200 MILLION per (black) person to be paid out, while throwing tantrums at legislators for being offered "only"$1.2 MILLION, for being the descendant of a slave. This is what you get when you pander to the lunatic fringe. Outlaws trying to steal from the taxpayers of their state. Don't be surprised if the $200 MILLION demand goes even higher, and so does the $1.2 MILLION offering.
This is not the first effort to repeal Proposition 209. In 2020, Proposition 16 appeared on the general election ballot asking California voters to amend the California Constitution to repeal Proposition 209.
Proposition 16 failed, with 57% of voters saying they want to keep Proposition 209, which still remains in effect.
