Biden inflation. Build Back Poorer

80 million people turned out to vote for someone else to be president...that is how good Trump was as a president.

Nope. 80 million voted for Trump. 30 million LEGAL voters voted for Joe. And copy machines and fraud gave Joe an office he couldn't earn legally at the ballot box.

Obama inherited a recession that drove unemployment to 10%, dropped 8% of the GDP into the toilet and nearly bankrupted two of three American car companies.

He inherited a MILD recession, one that would have cleared up in the first summer if he had done nothing. Instead, his policies turned it into the worst economy since the Great Depression

Obama turned over an unemployment rate of 4.5%.

When you make stupid statements like that, you wonder why everybody is still laughing at you. Unemployment rates are determined by the number of people filing for unemployment. They do not take into consideration the VAST number of people who just gave up trying to find a job, (especially when there weren't any.)

https://www.glennbeck.com/2013/02/01/obamanomics-unemployment-7-9/

Even though the rate ticked up, 157,000 jobs were added - BUT 169,000 people gave up looking for work and left the job force. In Obama’s 1st term the total number of people who left the workforce is 8.5 million but fortunately for Obama those people are not counted in the unemployment figure -- if they were the unemployment rate would be 14.4%.

Unemployment Holocaust: 96,000 Jobs Added, 368,000 Give Up Hope Under Obama. For Every Job Obama Created, FOUR Bailed Out Of Declining Workforce

Joe Biden said it last night in his speech: “We’ve turned the corner.”
If you read this article, you will see how right – and yet how terribly, wickedly wrong – Joe Biden and the Obama administration truly are.
The key to understanding the official (U-3) unemployment rate is the bizarre measure by which people who are out of work are counted as “unemployed” only if they’re actively looking for a job. Only 63 percent of working-age adults are working in Obama’s God damn America. Millions of people – over 23 million – have dropped out of the work force, making this unemployment statistic not only meaningless, but cruel, as oppressed people simply don’t count any more.

https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2014/01/28/obamas-fuzzy-unemployment-math-in-state-of-the-union/

The most recent employment report clearly illustrates his insensitive deception. The unemployment rate did drop from 7.0% to 6.7%, the lowest rate since October 2008. However, the rate fell almost entirely because almost 350,000 people left the workforce unable to find a job, according to figures released on January 10th by the U.S. Department of Labor. On the other hand, the U.S. economy added only a meager 74,000 jobs in December, well below estimates of what is needed for any widespread jobs recovery. In other words, about 80% of the “improvement” in the unemployment rate was because people got so discouraged with the job market they just gave up.

What was it when Trump turned it over to Biden? Was it lower or higher?

The economy was expanding. Gasoline was under $2 a gallon (in lower taxed red states). Even with the Coronavirus, businesses were opening, thanks to Trump.

And his record BEFORE the Coronavirus was the best of all time.

Unprecedented Economic Boom

Before the China Virus invaded our shores, we built the world’s most prosperous economy.

  • America gained 7 million new jobs – more than three times government experts’ projections.
  • Middle-Class family income increased nearly $6,000 – more than five times the gains during the entire previous administration.
  • The unemployment rate reached 3.5 percent, the lowest in a half-century.
  • Achieved 40 months in a row with more job openings than job-hirings.
  • More Americans reported being employed than ever before – nearly 160 million.
  • Jobless claims hit a nearly 50-year low.
  • The number of people claiming unemployment insurance as a share of the population hit its lowest on record.
  • Incomes rose in every single metro area in the United States for the first time in nearly 3 decades.

Delivered a future of greater promise and opportunity for citizens of all backgrounds.

  • Unemployment rates for African Americans, Hispanic Americans, Asian Americans, Native Americans, veterans, individuals with disabilities, and those without a High school diploma all reached record lows.
  • Unemployment for women hit its lowest rate in nearly 70 years.
  • Lifted nearly 7 million people off of food stamps.
  • Poverty rates for African Americans and Hispanic Americans reached record lows.
  • Income inequality fell for two straight years, and by the largest amount in over a decade.
  • The bottom 50 percent of American households saw a 40 percent increase in net worth.
  • Wages rose fastest for low-income and blue collar workers – a 16 percent pay increase.
  • African American homeownership increased from 41.7 percent to 46.4 percent.

Brought jobs, factories, and industries back to the USA.

  • Created more than 1.2 million manufacturing and construction jobs.
  • Put in place policies to bring back supply chains from overseas.
  • Small business optimism broke a 35-year old record in 2018.

Turn Back Better
Re-read @reason10 's post....I answered his specific claims that the economy was wonderful in January 2021 and Biden turned it to shit.

In fact, Trump's tax cuts were idiotic. He doubled the deficit all to buy votes from short sighted voters who don't understand it is borrowed money or don't plan to live long enough to have to pay it back.

There there is the debate over whether or not Trump's leadership during the pandemic could have limited some of the more extreme measures states took to limit the spread. Trump said there was no problem and it'll go away on its own. When it became a disaster the states acted on their own...states competing with other states for PPE and medical personnel...driving prices up and causing hoarding....

Trump's response was one of helplessness and he resorted to inventing magical solutions like internal disinfectants and UV lights...and brings in an idiot radiologist who says we should just go about our business and hope for herd immunity....WTF!!!
When Obama took over the National debt was $10.7 trillion. When Trump took over the National debt was $20.0 trillion. Looks like Obama upped the anti by just a little under $10 trillion. When Biden took over the National debt was $27.7 trillion so Trump upped it about $7.7 trillion. It's already at $28.8 trillion and Biden has only been in office for 9 months.

I dunno.

What about my question. Did a global economic shutdown happen asa result of the pandemic? Did employers in the USA shutter operations?
The pandemic happened to be the immediate cause of a global economic shutdown that was inevitably going to be sparked by some precipitating factor due to the underlying fundamental rot in the economy.

EatTheRich

Yeah. Better to sit at home collecting free money while everything falls apart because of lack of workers .. rah!

Agreed though...Trump kind of f'ed that comment up....
The issue is not lack of workers. The issue is the capital strike that by refusing to pay workers wages at current market levels hopes to induce them to work for much less.

All lies...

From now on you get as good as you give.

One example...We lost 750,000 jobs in December 2008 alone. Hardly a f*king mild recession.

Unemployment dropped from a Bush recession worst of 10% to 4.5% when Trump took office. You claim it was because millions of workers dropped out.

The national debt on Sept 30th, 2009 was 12 trillion....on Sept 30th 2017 when Trump's budget kicked in was 20 trillion. On Sept 30th, 2021 it was $28t...

Nope. 80 million voted for Trump. 30 million LEGAL voters voted for Joe. And copy machines and fraud gave Joe an office he couldn't earn legally at the ballot box

Prove it. You and I both know that is a lie.

Here are the stats on the civilian labor force. The recession of 2007/2010 dropped the rate from 66% to a low of 62.5%. Before the pandemic hit it was at 63.5%. That was Trump's best employment number.

That would show the total number of individuals of working age who are employed.

As of September 2020 there were 147,795,000 people over the age of 16 employed.

As of sept 2011 it was 139,869,000. In 2016 it was 151,436,000...

So in 4 years Trump borrowed more than Obama did in 8. Obama was dealing with a recession caused by republican policies. Trump was dealing with a pandemic that he arguably failed to control

Yes. Pretty much. Absent the pandemic that turned it to shit. Was it?

Was Trump's tax cut any better than mailing people endless checks, and trying to buy everyone with the promise of free ...to the tune of 3.5 trillion?

At the early onset.. he did. What did he say later on? Be honest. Or is that very early statement of it will go away on its own, the only statement he ever uttered?

As far as supplies and states acting. Was our pandemic readiness optimal when Trump took office? Furthermore was the demand for PPE such that anyone could have met it? Or is it a truer statement that the entirety of this Earth was competing for PPE, which caused massive shortages? Furthermore don't the states act on their own? Ever?

Lastly. Was it one of helplessness, or did a certain endeavor bring to market a vaccine faster than any other in the history of man?

And by the way, with all the tools presently at the disposal of the current administration, are the numbers of deaths from covid more or less than the number when Trump left office? So arguably who's doing worse? The bumbling idiot who had nothing, or the new idiot that has everything at hand and can't get it done?

Feel free to explain how getting a job will address the problem that prices for food and gas are rising faster than wages for jobs. Then explain how everyone can get a job when there is systemic unemployment.

There's always systemic unemployment. Is it just a figment of my imagination or are there millions of jobs available in retail, service, and otherwise?

Currently everything is a rising faster than wages. Does that mean we all sit around doing nothing. Or as adults do we step forward and do something? Or do we have to wait for Daddy to do it?

There was no emergency Trump was responding to when he cut taxes. He did it for votes. That, all by itself, doubled the deficit.

You say Trump had nothing at the start of the pandemic? Could that be due to the fact that he disbanded the pandemic response team, letting some of the team go and moving the rest into other functions, like WMD proliferation?

If he took office without enough PPE, he had from 2017 to 2020 to fix it...did he? Trump should have acquired supplies and issued the supplies according to need. That would have kept prices lower than having 50 states and endless numbers of hospitals buying up all they could.

No, that isn't the only comment he made...but most of what he did say was counter productive. We only have one person with Covid...oh, we only have 15 people with the infection...he minimized it up until June.

Hmm...kinda nope

Fix it how...to what level... Are our pandemic supplies stocked to the point of being able to supply and resupply every living person in america? No. Were they ever? No. Were they stocked to a level estimated to be sufficient given prior response needs? My guess would be yes. Had they been neglected for a number of years up to an including when Trump took office? The answer is a definitive yes.

It did minimize it for a time, because it was minimal, and perhaps because the thinking at the time was that it would have, much like Ebola did, avian flu, and so on before it. Is that a fair statement? Or do we just have to stick the partisan statements?

You do know that Trump admitted to downplaying the pandemic, right? He said it was to prevent a panic...instead it created a crisis of trust.

I did not say the entire team was fired...it was disbanded and some members were fired. The fact is that left nobody in place specifically tasked with tracking info on a pandemic.

Yes I'm aware of that. I'm also aware that that's not the only thing he did or said. And I won't pretend otherwise.

There were numerous individuals rolled into the NIH. It's a falsehood that there was nobody left in place tasked with tracking info on a pandemic. You know how I know? Because we literally had every [Unwelcome language removed] institution on Earth tracking the pandemic. We watched it day after day count after count moment after moment. Including the national institutes of health. Not to mention the cdc, who, etc etc

Every time I suggest doing something about it, you derail discussion of my proposal with “get a job” which is not a serious answer to the social (not individual) problem being discussed. Today there are 1.15 job openings for every person looking for a job—an all-time High. Because of the inelasticity of the labor market that does not mean that every person looking for a job can get one.

Darrell howe? Getting a job is an answer. Or would you prefer that everybody sit around doing absolutely nothing and earning absolutely nothing waiting to be utterly bailed out by the government?

And it absolutely is an answer to the social problem. A productive society lifts all boats. Doesn't it? More money to give out more money to subsidize people in need more money for health care more money for infrastructure more money for the government...

There's plenty of elasticity in the job market. The in elasticity is with those reluctant to do anything at all. Instead waiting to be bailed out.

It is not false to say there was nobody watching for signs of a potential pandemic...yes, after we'd had info from WHO we did task people with focusing on the coming pandemic....I may be wrong, but my understanding is that the original team was to watch for intel that might indicate a threat.

Sure it is. When is the threshold for declaring one? When was one declared? And in the time preceding the declaration how many cases were there in the United states?
