CBS faces uproar after seizing investigative journalist’s files

Catherine Herridge is a highly respected investagative reporter and she has been investigating Hunter Biden. Of course many of her records could include incriminating evidence against him and family that she was in the process of putting together. It's interesting that a member of the media chose to try and eliminate all that.

That was an interesting read...Makes you wonder what is in her files that has CBS so concerned.

Hopefully, that will come to light at some point.

Didn't they lay off people, more than her?
Given the other layoffs and declining revenues, the inclusion of Herridge was defended by the network as a painful but necessary measure.

Always a conspiracy for the right wingers

From the article:

A former CBS manager, who also spoke on condition of anonymity, said that he had “never heard of anything like this.” He attested to the fact that, in past departures, journalists took all of their files and office contents. Indeed, the company would box up everything from cups to post-its for departing reporters. He said the holding of the material was “outrageous” and clearly endangered confidential sources.

So, this seems like an unusual step to take...It is not unfair to as "Why?".

This can all be cleared up very easily...All that would be required is for CBS to return the files to Ms. Herridge. And if they don't wish to do that, at least explain why not.

This seems like a good story to keep an eye on.

It absolutely is not unfair to ask why?

Fortunately, there may be an avenue to finding out the truth in all this:

CBS could be forcing a showdown with the union, which must protect not only this journalist but all journalists seeking to maintain control and confidentiality of their files.

The union may have no choice but to go to court to force CBS to protect journalistic values, including a demand for an injunction to force the company to secure these files and bar review until a court has had a chance to consider these questions of confidential and proprietary claims to the files.

Famed CBS anchor Walter Cronkite once said “our job is only to hold up the mirror — to tell and show the public what has happened.” It now appears that CBS itself will have to look into that mirror and answer some questions of what happened to the confidential records of Catherine Herridge.

Time will tell.

There is yet another development in this story:

A letter from committee chair Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan (R) was issued Friday to CBS News President Ingrid Ciprián-Matthews making note of Herridge’s investigation of the Hunter Biden laptop scandal along with the family of President Joe Biden.

Additionally, the letter noted how, “Currently Ms. Herridge is, and at the time of her termination was, engaged in a First Amendment-based legal dispute in which a federal judge threatened to hold her in contempt and levy significant fines if she did not divulge sources who gave her information about a federal investigation.”

Setting a deadline for March 1, Jordan’s letter demanded, “A briefing to the Committee concerning the individual(s) at Paramount Global, CBS Broadcasting, Inc., or CBS News who made the decision to terminate Ms. Herridge and the reasons for such termination, including the decision to seize Ms. Herridge’s confidential materials as a part of this termination” along with all documents and communications regarding those who had access to her materials and reviewed, copied or examined them.

Blistering incuriosity exhibited by the usual suspects. Any time these folks start moaning about “fascism” or “authoritarianism”, just remember their habit of never questioning things and/or mocking others who DO. Everything dismissed out of hand as “conspiracy”.

Our “at risk Democracy” can only be at risk when doltish citizens suspend their faculties and shirk their duties to be vigilant.

I don't know what is going on with Ms. Herridge's files, or what is in them, but at least there is some reporting going on it the situation. Hopefully this will result in the truth coming to light.

The truth will set you free.

Yep. Neither do I. I just note the combination of silence by many on the left…and mockery by others - - for discussing and questioning this. There’s a profound societal illness there.

CBS says she is lying. The fact that she is still propping up this Russian manufactured hoax, goes a long way to proving their point.

“Catherine’s personal belongings were delivered to her home one week ago, and we are prepared to pack up the rest of her files immediately on her behalf—with her representative present as she requested. We are awaiting a response from Catherine and/or her representative to do so. We have respected her request to not go through the files, and out of our concern for confidential sources, the office she occupied has remained secure since her departure,” the statement reads.
