CBS host laughs in Ted Cruz's face for repeatedly denying he shut down government

What did they cite back in the mid-2000s when it was going up 15% per year?
I don't remember a 15 percent increase ever in fact 10 percent is the highest ever in 20 years we did have a big increase once in 89 or 90 but that was because they were tinkering with the plan that refunded a portion of the premiums I got about 1500 a year refund those 2 years but it ate too much of the new guys paycheck to continue

Did you specifically ask them in writing. or did you just receive a statement from your ins. carrier with the notice of the rate increase?
They sent a letter itemizing the increases. I remember the biggest item was the cost of insuring kids to the age of 26 when previously kids were covered to the age of 22 provided they were still full time students.

Everyone has a different situation with so many different private plans, but my insurance deal is better -- so far.

Actually they did ACA was cited as the biggest reason
Then they probably had to provide some coverage that was previously missing from your policy in order to become compliant. So you're getting more insurance for more money. That's still more money, huh? I hate insurance, truth be told.

Kinda have to have it when you have a family to take care of though...

Rates and coverage will always vary and as NS stated, the policy must be ACA compliant.

New Benefits Come With Obamacare
Colonoscopies and Mammograms Are Among No- or Low-Cost Requirements
Coverage for pregnancy and childbirth?

Check.

Mental-health care? Prescription drugs?

Check and check.

People who buy health insurance as on their own are seeing big changes as their coverage gets more comprehensive this year.

The Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, requires that all new plans offered in 2014 cover a set of "essential health benefits," some at no cost to enrollees.

The benefits are modeled after those typically offered by large employers and fall into 10 broad categories: outpatient care; emergency care; hospitalization; maternity and newborn care; mental-health services and addiction treatment; prescription drugs; rehabilitative services and devices; laboratory, preventive and pediatric services.

That's good news for the 14 million people who buy individual insurance, a number that's expected to rise substantially in coming years, health-policy experts say.

One of the biggest gains is maternity care. Before Jan. 1, women who bought individual insurance policies typically found that plans excluded pregnancy or offered them a rider to cover it that was prohibitively expensive, says Karen Davenport, director of health policy for the National Women's Law Center, a nonprofit group in Washington.

Coverage for Dependents
Now all new health plans, whether in or out of the insurance exchanges, must cover pregnancy, labor and delivery. And prenatal visits are considered well-woman preventive-care visits that are covered at no charge to enrollees. Coverage extends not just to the policyholder but to dependents as well.

"Previously, dependent daughters were often not covered," Ms. Davenport says.

In the past, people in the individual market faced tough choices because insurers didn't want to attract expensive risks and weren't required to offer coverage in many areas, says Cheryl Damberg, principal senior researcher for Rand. in Santa Monica, Calif.

"Consumers either decided to forego services for mental-health treatment, or in the case of maternity, ended up with very expensive bills that could potentially bankrupt them," Ms. Damberg says.

The rollout of essential health benefits "does move us as a country toward a national standard," she says. "It provides a basic floor that people can't fall below."

Nearly four million people who buy health plans on their own will gain coverage for mental-health care, substance-use disorder or both, according to federal estimates.

The list of preventive-care benefits available at no cost to enrollees is long. It includes immunizations such as flu shots, colonoscopy screenings and polyp removal, mammograms, autism screening and vision testing for children, a host of contraceptive methods, breast pumps and lactation support for nursing mothers and over-the-counter products that are prescribed by a health-care provider.

See the full list of benefits at HealthCare.gov/prevention.

Health plans have some discretion as to how the benefits are applied. There "may be some variation from state to state and plan to plan within large categories of covered services," says Alina Salganicoff, vice president for women's health policy at the Kaiser Family Foundation in Menlo Park, Calif.

The law grants an exception for grandfathered health plans, those that existed on March 23, 2010, when the law was enacted and that have made only modest changes to benefits and cost-sharing.

Those plans don't have to comply with certain essential-benefit rules until they lose their grandfathered status. Unlike new health plans, grandfathered plans may charge enrollees for immunizations and other preventive care.

What You Need to Know
Here are a few things to know about essential health benefits:

Determine if you have a grandfathered plan. Call your health insurer to find out the status.

If a preventive service is rated an A or B by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, new health plans should cover it with no cost sharing, Ms. Salganicoff says.

You still have to visit in-network providers to obtain the qualified preventive service free of charge. An exception is generally made if you don't have an in-network provider available in your area for a needed service.

With maternity care, remember that if you select a lower-premium bronze plan in the exchange, your out-of-pocket costs for labor and delivery will be higher than someone who selected a higher-premium plan such as gold or platinum.

If you suspect that you were charged for a covered service in error, appeal the decision.

:rolleyes:Small wonder -- CBS host Bob Schieffer's was driven nearly to a fit of giggles on Sunday after Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) repeatedly refused to take responsibility for last year's government shutdown.
