I read that it costs 2.4 cents to make a penny and 11.2 cents for each nickel. The U.S. Mint is discussing changing the mix of metals to make it less expensive. Apparently the administrative cost of making a penny costs half a penny.
I personally think we should get rid of pennies, nickels, and dimes.

Not so much Nickles and Dimes (Although, their time may be swiftly approacing...), but, definately Pennies. (Copper will be going up in price in future years anyways...it is an incredibly important metal....)
Sooner or later, though, "hard currency" will be an anachronism, as we all simply trade in digitial money. (Still need better security, before that will be fully trusted, though)
Maybe redesign the Nickel, using less and cheaper materials....
