Most of the artifacts recovered from The Monitor after she was found in 1973 were sent there for restoration and are on display there.
2) The Battle of Stones River in Murfreesboro,TN began on this day in 1862. It was a 3 day battle and ultimately a Union victory. Some of the battlefield was preserved by the National Park Service and is part of Stones River NMP. Stones River National Cemetery is there also.
