Rock bottom was when Pres. Bush and Paulson announced that "the sky was falling!" Pres. Obama just inherited a MESS and the Republicans have used and abused him for trying to correct it. PERIOD.

America needs to do what China does to protects its industries. If you buy an American car in China you have to pay an extra luxury tax.
America should place a luxury tax on any car made by any foreign manufactuer even if that car is asembled in America using foreign parts.
There should also be an added tax on American cars and trucks assembled in America with foreign parts like motors and transmissions.
If you buy anything imported from china or any other foreign nation in America, there should be a not made in America tax added with proceeds going to new startup businesses that compete with foreign manufacturers and employ only American worker.

At the risk of sounding curmudgeonly, America has fallen victim to "betting on the come". We overspend, we don't save, and we leverage today and tomorrow - forever borrowing forward. We do this as individuals and we do this as a matter of national governance and policy. This alone is damning. Add to this the international factors discussed above and it's a bad recipe.
