Well, in this case moral leadership would be about de-escalation in which Biden is failing. And using the international system to get Russia to leave Ukrainian territory under their own volition. To internationally impose restoration that does not drive Russia into a Weimar Republic economic death spiral. And this is the moral choice because Russia has nukes that they could use should the occasion arise.

Russia probably wants neutrality of Ukraine but might settle for the neutrality of Crimea and/or the Donbas region.

The women and children raped and killed is a monstrous thing that deserves punishment if you can get it but at the cost of additional innocent lives might not be the answer.
