There is nothing righties should be held responsible for by anyone.

Not lies or murders or treason or insurrection, or the promotion thereof. As long as they are behind the acts the rest of the nation should remain as silent about their misdeeds as they are.

You mean it shouldn't have to examine this aspect of the media and political expression. But we are not in that ideal position. The fact that the most ubiquitous form of communication in human history is essentially completely unregulated in this regard is our actual situation.

We regulate against feeding the public violence, nudity, and obscene speech. Yet when it comes to lies, foreign propaganda from our adversary who want to instill division, we should remain hands off.

Even the lies of private businesses are regulated. Otherwise, you would have a company telling people that serving your kids their packets of sugar would be good for children's teeth.

The only difference is lies instead of its teeth we are rotting the nation's soul with unrestrained lying.

Banning RW propaganda won’t make people less susceptible to it. It’ll just give righty a chance to play the victim while the MSM delivers a watered-down version of the same message.

But should there be any consequences for the intentional mass spreading of disinformation and/or no requirement to correct lies afterwards ?

Yeah, people should vigorously call out those outlets’ lies, propagandize for the truth, and stop lending credence to sources that discredit themselves by spreading disinformation.

True, it would no doubt control the spread of it though especially MAGA Media propaganda sourced from adversaries like Russia etc.

MAGA Media Outlets and their DC minions get these Russian talking points and repeats them verbatim is what the real issue is.

Putin's Wet dream is a civil war in the US and right now there is a siloed communication infrastructure via MAGA Media in the US for that to happen.

Cancel culture does not work for lying like it does for gross or hateful behavior. Believing a lie only makes one a victim or shows they're naive. While the lie itself lives on and on and at best becomes a "controversy" where sides simply don't agree.

I don't think the govt should police the media. This is something the media needs to do for itself. They need within themselves an independent group that does the policing.
They need their own GAO for the news so to speak.
