There has got to be someone who understands what the job actually entails in a time of split government. Tip O’Neal and Ronald Reagan understood it and actually ended up respecting and liking each other. Even though Newt Gingrich despised Clinton, they worked together and got some stuff done. We need an intelligent adult who understands how these institutions work and knows about compromise. Hopefully there are 218 among them who can agree on a sane alternative to McCarthy. We‘ll see.
