How do we address the migrant crisis?

They all are. This is their signature issue for 2024. Caravans of disease carrying, drug mules are crossing the borders unchecked. The leader of their party is the chief border-baiter too.
Are you saying there isn’t a bad element crossing our borders illegally? I do agree that the border issues will be prevalent in discussion during the election cycle. Along with the economy, drug problems and crime in general. As they should be.

Fox has all kinds of reporters there slobbering in breathless anxiety.Sad to see mostly families desperate for a new life, but they aren't white so the GOP/FOX crowd demonizes them
I am curious when our border head Harris will make a trip to the border? And by the way where is Cortez? In her White suit, crying at the fence? Record high numbers happening at our borders now.

Btw, the rules haven’t changed much (except for the Covid restrictions that were only just lifted). The difference is that the economy under Trump made people not want to immigrate the way the economy under Biden makes people want to immigrate.
Come on you really don’t believe that? LOL

They don't need to amend it. There is nothing in the asylum rules that say you have to enter the border to apply for asylum. You can go to an airport or, as I suggested, a port of entry and apply there. We should not be allowing them in until they have their hearing, however.

Again, if Biden wants to keep them here, then they should go to a sanctuary city or state, and leave the states that want the feds to follow the law out of it.
So dishonest. As I told you 5 times, the asylum laws allow one to apply for asylum either at a port of entry or upon reaching US soil. You know that by now.

The border is overflowing. Border cities are overflow.
What consideration should be given to aiding those arriving and in need and provide equitable support from the states...

Apportion arrivals per state/city?

How? Thoughts..?

The first step would be to acknowledge a problem exists. something the current administration has been loath to do.

Short term measures would be to reinstate the remain-in-Mexico policy for asylum seekers, and to use the National Guard if necessary to control the southern border. Additional steps would include properly funding of the border patrol agencies and construction of barriers where practical.

The long term measure, and the one that matters the most, would be to address the issues that make Mexican citizens want to leave their native land in the first place. While it is not the U.S. 's responsibility to "fix Mexico", it is in our own best interests to work with the Mexican government to weaken the drug cartels wherever and however possible, remove corrupt officials from the Mexican government and law enforcement, and generally improve the quality of life for everyday Mexican citizens. This is all far easier said than done, and would require enormous investment as well as resolve...Without it, however, our neighbors to the south will continue to flood our border, and barriers and personnel can only do so much to restrain them.

If there is a better and more humane way, I'm all ears.

My two cents.

I feel a bit lightheaded. Maybe you should drive.
Easy - just print whatever money is needed to give every incomming illegal trillion $$$.

Problem solved...

You should go to their websites and get ahold of their schedules. You should also go to the Mexican Border in California, drive into Mexico then try to cross back into the US without showing a passport. That will educate you about how wide open our borders are.

I agree with a lot of what you said Zam. I would add one more element. End this idiotic drug war which funds these criminal drug cartels. Once there is no more huge profits in drug smuggling and distribution many of these crime and border issues will disappear. Before all of these idiotic drug laws were created, Coca Cola was laced with Cocaine, you could buy heroin from the Sears catalog, opiates of all kinds could be purchased over the counter and Canibus could be grown, smoked and sold freely. There was no drug problems then, no drug street gangs and these substances were freely available and cheap which prevented users from robbing and stealing to support their habits. Until we address this we will continue to waste trillions on enforcement, court costs, public defenders, prisons etc. Those funds could be used for border security, education, drug and alcohol rehab and other issues.

It’s first and foremost a matter of international law.
No, it's not. It's a matter of national sovereignty. I am not aware of any country that allows unfettered access into their borders. Perhaps you can cite this "international law" for which you hide behind.

Sorry, did I not mention port of entry?

Again, there is nothing in the law that says we have to have them within our border. Let them apply and wait for their hearings outside, or in a sanctuary state. If they leave the sanctuary state, then they should be arrested and removed.
