I think it's just a matter of time before several/multiple US cities are nuked either by dirty bombs, suitcase nukes....or via an attack by full-out nuclear missles (see Venezuela and Cuba's cooperation with Iran in order for that attack to occur).

Ask this question. Is there any other country in the world that has already been attacked on their soil by terrorists, and that KNOW terrorists are still trying or planning an attack or attacks that would be even more devastating, that does NOT control their own border but instead, allows terrorists to waltz across unnoticed, along with other illegal immigrants?

If so, I'm unaware of that nation.

And either way, it makes no sense to do what we're doing, which is to ignore the problem of that 'illegal border crossing' source of infiltration by our enemies. Of course, most on the left here will point to home-grown terrorists that already have been involved in plotting to attack the US. But that's a situation that we can't control OR predict ahead of time. At least with the border control, we could do something about it....if politicians only would.
Our borders are more secure than they ever have been in history. That is a fact.

I say "Extremely Safe," BUT...I would likely move that down to "Moderatly Safe," if I lived in New York, Washington, or another high-profile city.

Still, I think we are pretty safe....
I feel okay with things being as they are, as I've lived lots like ORR , wondering if I am the cat with nine lives. I don't really think another attack would have to target a population center as much as being spread out across the hinterland to disrupt our status quo. We need to think like one of those thugs to outfox them. A dozen terrorists focusing on a single assault, if spread across the country for a silumtaneous hit, would draw more attention than another big hit. My training in such cases (and I had lots of it while assigned to duty in the CIC) would suggest a target such as several Walmsrt stores in different sectors of the country being papped at the same time would have more far reaching consequnces that another WTC type of crime. The fallout from just the finanial losses might leave millions of people fearful to even go shopping.

In the years following 9/11, I was always amazed when people on the Fray, who claimed to be from small towns scattered around the rural areas, would talk about how they feared they could be killed at any moment by a terrorist attack. Some perspective, people. You live in fricking Otter Creek. The Post Office, drug store, supermarket, and gas station are all 1 building. With 4 aisles. Yeah, you're right at the top of the terrorist hit list.

KG, I'm afraid they will practice on me just to prepare for the big one!

Dave, don't take this the wrong way, but a question such as this requires more than just a poll, I'd love to know the motivation behind it.

On the subject of safety, Americans or people I should tend to react badly to looming threats or perceived threats, The New York Sun published a series of articles resplendent with beautiful pictures titled "Moon People" a fanciful series of articles dedicated to the discovery of moon people, their habits, their society etc.
Unfortunately this occurred before the Civil War, and given the heightened sense of anxiety, people believed it.

And as you probably know, Mercury Theater in the 30's broadcasted "War of the Worlds" again on the verge of a war, and of course people believed it.

What I believe is we still have people suffering from the PTDS of 9/11 and the Belief system people have, there's socialists under the bed, Obama is a covert muslim sent here to destroy our way of life, reminds of the moon people and of course the alien invasion in '33.

I think people still suffer from 9/11, and I am not sure if they are able to acertain whether they are safe or not.
They are too busy observing "effigies".

I really like what you have to say here, especially about Israel and "forcing our way of 'democracy'".

Moderately for me. Until we manage to do more with our security agencies (FBI/CIA) working together without all the internal turf wars they have we will get no better at domestic security. The creation of Homeland Security was a good idea gone awry. The TSA is a joke, as is the never ending war on drugs.

If we really want to secure this country from an Islamic extremist attack we will start to distance ourselves from Israel. Iran might like to wipe out Israel, but for years we have seen how Israel reacts to both real and perceived threats. Let them fight it out on their own, get ourselves off our addiction to oil (both foreign and domestic,) and stop trying to force our way of "democracy" on the rest of the world's nations.

The borders are secured in every other country, no matter how large an area to secure. It's not a matter of how. It's a matter of why the hell not. And the reason or answer to that question is POLITICS.

Um...I just DID answer, smarty pants. And this kind of BS from a new mod??? And psst...not everyone LIVES on this board like you do.

Notice you never got an answer to your question?....that's the AM Radio/Hannitized "Scared Stiff" vote in the poll.

Ditto for the most part but the anti-Israel rhetoric and Iran's money trail says they are a clear and present danger. In other words they Ain't 'boy scouts'!

We planted Israel where the Palestinians live and WE owe it to both sides to see this through... WE all need to suck it up and make sure both sides succeed. Iran uses the Palestinian as an excuse to be a belligerent against Israel. Like most of Israel's neighbors. Israel confuses our support as a green light to grow their footprint and no one cares that the Pals are living in economic strife with 80% unemployment...

We hover at 9% and there is almost talk of revolution...

On the other hand we have Israel being pushed in to the sea by its neighbors since 1948... Rockets supplied by Iran dropping almost everyday in Israel. We got hit once by four cells on 9/11 and here WE are today...

That's a daft thing to say. Borders aren't secured in every other country.

Once again, our nation's borders are more secure than they have ever been in our history.

We didn't plant Israel in Palestine. If anyone did it was the Brits.

You keep an eye on those revolutionaries. Be sure to alert the proper authorities if their activities raise your suspicions. You'd be a real hero if you thwarted the next Timmy McVeigh, and hated, possibly incarcerated, if you simply looked the other way.

Lapcat,

Not being a smartass here, how would you secure the borders? Remember, there's 102,514 miles of border to be patrolled. That includes the borders with Canada (5,525 miles), Mexico (1,989 miles), and the coastlines (95,000 miles).

Terrorism is overblown. We bomb the **** out of other countries and the people there carry on their with day to day lives.

I remember seeing video from Iraq right after shock and awe began and there were people on the freeway going to work at 6 am as usual. It's our leaders we have to worry about. The ones who would use a terrorist act to instill fear and panic. Most likely you don't think about it because its not being shoved in your face everyday like it was under the last admin.
"Last Admin".............eh, how bout 'O' DRONES.............present admin...........ooops..........didn't know there were kids there........."present admin".....not the "last admin"..............

where's ya
bout that?

The revolution IS being televised and Blogged!

You are part correct and part wrong on Israel... The Brits laid out the British Mandate for Israel in the 30's but the newly formed UN has been the controlling body that we started and plunked Israel where it is in '48. Sorry but solving Israel is in our national interest.

As far as the mocking of the "revolutionaries" you missed the point totally but let's play a game. Do you think things are at un-restful state here in USA at 9% un-employment? How about at 10%? 15%? 50%? Add in a "do nothing congress" and $5.00/ gallon gas prices. Now imagine being at 70%-80% unemployment and being occupied by Israel, Muslim extremist and the UN who created the mess ignoring them? The only guy ratching up the pressure on Israel is Obama and he's catching flack for it.

As far as the revolutionaries today... we call them Tea Partiers or Occupy "where ever"- they maybe hibernating due to weather but they will be back soon enough. People are fed up. No need to look for wingnuts when even Middle America is marching now...

Rebuild With Biden!
My concerns have more to do with our food, water, vaccines, and medicine supplies being poisoned or contaminated by those out to do Americans harm. Germ warfare would be one of the sneakiest and least detected means of potentially making our society suffer...only my opinion.
I voted moderately safe on your poll. I don't worry excessively about it though.
