No slave picking cotton, ever worked as hard as I did, and my fellow soldiers, when I was a construction worker in the US Army Corps of Engineers, building bridges, with no cranes or mechanized equipment, back in the 1960s. Who do you think worked the farm to provide the food or provided the labor that allowed for items to be purchased or doctors and outside laborers paid ?

Last I heard the military pays its soldier in addition to providing food housing medical care and recreation.
