I lost an aunt to cancer. A bigger tragedy was that if she'd gone to a doctor earlier, she stood a good chance of being saved. She came from an upbringing of "never going to the doctor unless it was really necessary". When it became necessary, it was too late.
One of the first things I made my wife (then live-in GF) do when I found out it had been a few years since her last PAP smear and mammogram was to get one. Same for a colonoscopy since we're both late 50s.

This hits close to home for me because I am now seeing so many saved when, a few years ago they would be gone.
When the latest one had his white blood cells,removed, medication added, the nput back in. Then to see him a few weeks later at a Show,laughing his head off at a comedy skit was so good to see.
I realized then just how far research has come.

the amt. spent on breast cancer research is far and away the largest chunk given to cancer research,,even though there are other cancers that affect and kill more...
but them pink ribbons look good, and the squeaky wheel gets the grease...breast cancer is "pc",,prostate/lung cancer,,not so much....
It's a business. I'm sure a pill that makes dicks and/or tits bigger would sell faster than rainbow buttons at an LGBT festival.
