Fact: the penalty for homosexuality in Jesus's time was death. Jesus himself never questioned that. The author of the story is quoting the Bible. The quotations marks are right there. Newsweak is mischaracterizing what the man said, on purpose.
Fact: What Trump may or may not have done in his past is irrelevant. He says he has become a Christian, and that means God has forgiven him for those past behaviors and I am required to do so also. ALL Christians are.

Actually, Christian doctrine specifies that we are all “deserving of death”. All. Every single one of us. We are all sinners. The wages of sin is death. Thankfully, Christ atoned for all. So, doctrinally, according to proper Christian theology this is correct.

We are all deserving of death, according to Christian theology. That's what the doctrine of God's grace, through the blood of Jesus Christ, is all about. But I wouldn't expect you to understand that.
In the eyes of God, Mayor Pete is no better nor any worse than any other sinner. Christ died for all sin.
