Life in the U.S....err North Korea just got tougher, unless you're in the elite, comparison.

While North Korea’s pampered elite enjoy all the trappings of luxury in its capital Pyongyang, most of the country’s population endures grinding poverty and chronic hunger. This week leader Kim Jong-un revealed at the ruling Workers' Party committee that the nation's people are dealing with "tense" food shortages and the price of the food that is available is rocketing. A packet of coffee can currently sell for more than $100, and staples such as potatoes, sugar and flour have also been affected. Kim has blamed last year's typhoons, which led to flooding and meant grain targets couldn't be met. And the COVID-19 pandemic has also seen the nation close its borders, shutting off trade from its neighbor China, and increasing an already difficult situation for the country as it is under numerous sanctions due to its nuclear program.

Exchange North Korea with United States and "worker's" with Democrats and this will read the same, and wait till after October and it will be how did Drumcollie know? I knew in 2007 when Pelosi became Speaker? History repeats itself. But you can bank on the (D) telling about Hurricanes, the drought and COVID.

Currently we are seeing "infrastructure" being tossed around but it's nothing but a sham, funding (D) run organizations under the guise of helping those in need. Your 2000 stimulus became 1400 and the amount of the stimulus package wasn't reduced. Meanwhile food, gas, car lumber, steel and many other sectors of the economy are seeing prices rise. We will become, if the left continues, just like North Korea.

Share your thoughts and if you are lefty you will surrender to the points and just insult eh? Or do you actually have a point?

Yes, we are being sanctioned by Drum’s country of make believe. Better get started on our nuke program to get more foreign aid.

How clueless do you have to be to not realize a global pandemic cause lower production and opening back up creates rise in demand?

I think the U.S. is getting a big bounce after the artificially depressed production due to the pandemic and shutdown. That is very compatible with rapid money inflation especially due to the amount of public and private debt, the military spending and other subsidies to business, and the welfare state. The Obama-Trump prosperity lasted much longer than I expected it to, but even knowing that I don’t expect the current bounce to last long in (what we take these days for) peacetime.

The situation in N. Korea sounds awful. My policy advice to its politically active citizens:
1) ending the emergency requires a retreat from building socialism into allowing for small-scale capitalist production.
2) to this end taxes in kind should replace the current system of production for the state.
3) N. Korea needs to drastically reduce its military spending so that it can reallocate needed resources to food production including getting oil access. Without giving the imperialists a pretext for war or sacrificing its sovereignty, N. Korea can and should limit military influence over the government and party, drop the nuclear weapons program and a lot of the missiles programs, encourage a militia as an alternative to the professional army for first-line defense, and sell surplus military resources for oil, dollars, euros, gold, food, etc.
4) N. Korea needs China or another ally from which it can get much-needed aid (food, oil, etc.). It is permissible for its leaders to make compromises with the capitalist interests ruling China, Japan, S. Korea, or the U.S. to gain aid and/or guarantees of security. But it should put stock only in material securities and not in promises.
5) These proposed reform measures have the potential to exacerbate the inequality and dictatorial quality of the regime. This tendency should be countered with some immediate reforms including abandonment of the military-first policy, the right to recall public officials by petition and vote, and sharp limits on the pay of public officials.
6) Above all, unions should be strengthened and made independent of the government, while free speech, freedom of the press, the right to bear arms, and the right to vote for non-Fatherland Front candidates in elections should be recognized.
7) Ultimately successfully embarking on these needed reforms will require a political struggle against the Kim dictatorship, one that should be carried on from within the Workers’ Party as much as possible and in opposition to it when necessary. Perhaps the N. Koreans’ most natural allies in this fight are the struggling pro-democracy forces ik Hong Kong.

Only a hardcore pro-Trump moron would go with a comparison of NK and the US. Lumber futures are down by 50% as of yesterday. The price of gas will come down as supplies improve from production improvements. The price of gas today is about what it was in June of 2019 ($2.80) or June of 2018 ($2.97)....I'm sure that must have been Biden's fault as well...

The democrats took the majority in january of 2007. The recession is said to have started two quarters prior to the official start...so August or so of 2007 was when the economy began to tank. What legislation did the democrats pass from January to August that had the effect of kicking us into a recession?

Republicans had been in control of Congress for 10 years. Bush had been in the White House for 6...but somehow when Pelosi had been in the speaker's chair for 6 months she alone crashed the economy....not the idiotic legislation to to no-down mortgages or the regulations changing liquidity requirements for banks so that they'd be able to borrow to the hilt and invest in mortgage backed securities....

I didn't post anything of your fast food joint to TR
so that is the new rule? How funny! So that would be one way you can get away with lying...if you haven't done it in this thread, nobody is allowed to point it out.

And that has to do with what?

A 2014 inquiry by the United Nations into abuses of human rights in North Korea concluded that, "the gravity, scale and nature of these violations reveal a state that does not have any parallel in the contemporary world," with Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch holding similar views.

According to Human Rights Watch, which cites interviews with defectors, North Korean women are routinely subjected to sexual violence, unwanted sexual contact, and rape. Men in positions of power, including police, high-ranking officials, market supervisors, and guards can abuse women at will and are not prosecuted for it. It happens so often that it is accepted as a routine part of life. Women assume they can not do anything about it. The only ones with protection are those whose husbands or fathers are themselves in positions of power.

It certainly is Joe's* ideal place.

Funny how that happened twice while she was Speaker, and as you know the House is responsible for the economy.

And just when did the House become responsible for the economy?

If they are then the democrats controlled the House during the reagan recovery...so do they get the credit or does Saint Ronnie?

Fast food joints make money.
Some do. A lot of the places around ours went under. Three restaurants in the same building with us closed. If a place was not setup to do delivery they may have had a hard time with closing their dining rooms. The restaurant next to us was really a bar and made their money from alcohol/beer sales and the food was just to keep people drinking and watching sports on TV. Didn't work out in a year of takeout and delivery.

You a Lincoln Project guy? No better than a Democrats.
Nah, I’m a capitalist who believe in survival of the fittest and striving for capital gains.

Though I have a heart for poor people. Just not poor people who blame and complain about other poor people all day, those are absolute losers.

My state legalized alcohol delivery and alcohol to go from bars last year for that reason.
