The 10 spending cuts Republicans want in a debt limit deal (msn.com)They do make clear that they don’t want to cut Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and veterans benefits. And they can’t cut payments toward interest on the debt. But they still claim they want to balance the budget, although they say they will refuse to raise taxes. They say what they won’t cut, but refuse to say what they will cut.
So, bottom line, Republicans threaten to cause a default by not lifting the debt ceiling, unless they get spending cuts, which they refuse to identify.

Legal aid for migrants is the law. They are entitled to legal representation in the hearings to determine eligibility for asylum. Just like anyone who can't afford an attorney when accused of a crime. As near as I can determine, the funding for legal aid is about $500 million per year.
