That income inequality is a natural state of an economy. It is how supply and demand work. That inequality has been true in this country since a century or two before 1776. We've had robber barons build this country from the ground up that led to the great living standards the entire free world enjoys.
The thing to watch for is what is the living standard of those in the bottom fifth. Our bottom fifth live better than the middle class of the EU.
Majority of bottom fifth here live better than majority of middles class in USA...…..Hud Projects, food stamps, Medicaid, on and on and on bennies and don't have to work 40+ hours a week.

Slaves built most of that including the Capitol Building, and conscripted labor built the railroads. The "Robber Barons" were great, much like today, at stealing the funds put in the treasury, and profiting from it. Matters not if the bottom fifth live better then the middle class in the EU. The top fifth own 85% of the wealth, and use it to suppress that bottom fifth. And it was the Unions that led to the great economic buildup, not the millionaires, and billionaires.

And we are getting to the point where you have a choice when considering the slaggard wages being paid, rent, and other expenses, whether to buy from a big brick store, or pay a higher price and buy from the small brick store. In fact, has one as ignorant as you considered how many small businesses fail each year because they cannot afford the competition of a WalMart, Amazon, etc.?
