Except Putin's SMO was a reaction to decades of US meddling on the Ukrainian/Russian border with the principal purpose of regime change in Russia.

Greedy western investors, using their political puppets to enhance their private fortunes, are as responsible for the human misery on display today in Ukraine, Yemen, Syria, Gaza, etc., etc., as they were for similar conditions in Korea, Greece, Vietnam, China, and El Salvador decades ago.
Putin's SMO was entirely related to restoring Imperial Russia. He clearly stated that Ukraine had no right to be a sovereign nation and that it rightfully belonged to Russia.

This isn't the first time Russia has gone to war against one of the nations that previously had been under the control of the Kremlin.

Trump jr tweeted Zelensky is a welfare queen and Fox said the Bidens were getting rich running a money laundering scam using money stolen from Ukrainian aid.
Sounds plausible. After Biden's interference in Ukranian affairs, and his political influence sales corruption with Burisma, could be Don Jr is on to somethng.

Is it plausible that Trump ordered US troops withdrawn from Kurdish villages in Northern Syria and allowed Turkish attacks so that he could keep getting $3 million per year from the Istanbul Trump Towers?

he people of Ukraine are fighting like hell to prevent the takeover of their country. Many of the people of Russia are running to other countries because they know Putin's invasion is criminal.
80,000 Russian volunteers know the US is responsible for millions of Ukrainians becoming dead, displaced, and maimed. Putin's domestic approval rating trumps Lyin' Biden's.

When Ukrainian defenses collapse in Donbass, Zelensky and his million$ will slime off to Miami as American war-whores begin their eternal demand: "We Must Do Something."

Poland is listening.

https://www.tvr.by/eng/news/v_mire/ofitser_razvedki_ssha_ritter_polsha_gotovitsya_okkupirovat_zapadnuyu_ukrainu/

"Poland is sending its military in support of Kiev to prepare and train them to further occupy the western part of the country, retired U.S. Marine intelligence officer Scott Ritter said in an interview with the YouTube channel Judging Freedom.

"'The logic is that Warsaw is interested in Western Ukraine, in those territories and cities that were part of Poland in 1939,' the speaker said."

Hitler's excuse for invading Russia was that it was a communist country and Hitler said it was necessary to rid Europe of communism. Was that a legitimate justification for war?
No.
Which western banks fueled Hitler's (illegal) rearming of Germany?
How much did they "earn" from those tens of millions of deaths?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Barbarossa

"It was the largest land offensive in human history, with over 10 million combatants taking part.[27]

"The operation, code-named after Frederick Barbarossa ('red beard'), a 12th-century Holy Roman emperor and German king, put into action Nazi Germany's ideological goal of conquering the western Soviet Union to repopulate it with Germans.

"The German Generalplan Ost aimed to use some of the conquered people as forced labour for the Axis war effort while acquiring the oil reserves of the Caucasus as well as the agricultural resources of various Soviet territories.

'Their ultimate goal was to create more Lebensraum (living space) for Germany, and the eventual extermination of the indigenous Slavic peoples by mass deportation to Siberia, Germanisation, enslavement, and genocide.

Putin has no intention of occupying Ukraine.
His stated goal is the demilitarization and de-Nazification of a hostile US/NATO proxy state on his western border, and that's exactly what he's accomplishing in spite of what the western MSM propaganda tells you.

He's losing. His own people are running to other countries rather than join in his invasion. He has no legal justification for the invasion and almost every country on the planet has damned him for it.

His words or the interpretations of those words by the capitalist MSM?

"After a message from the Donbass republics Putin made a decision to conduct a 'special military operation.'

"'Its purpose is to protect the people who have for eight years been exposed to humiliation and genocide by the regime in Kiev. For this we will seek demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine, and also press for bringing to justice those who have committed numerous bloody crimes against peaceful civilians, including Russian citizens.'

"'Moscow’s plans to not include an occupation of Ukraine. It is for the right of the Ukrainian people to self-determination. Also, Putin said that Russia could not let Kiev obtain nuclear weapons and recalled NATO’s illegitimate expansion to the east.'"

"Military Math

"The impressive Ukrainian military accomplishments that were facilitated through the provision of military aid by NATO came at a huge cost in lives and material.

"While the exact calculation of casualties suffered by either side is difficult to come by, there is widespread acknowledgement, even among the Ukrainian government, that Ukrainian losses have been heavy.

"With the battle-lines currently stabilized, the question of where the war goes from here comes down to basic military math — in short, a causal relationship between two basic equations revolving around burn rates (how quickly losses are sustained) versus replenishment rates (how quickly such losses can be replaced.)

"The calculus bodes ill for Ukraine."

Russians flee to neighboring countries to avoid fighting in Putin’s war against Ukraine

Why did Putin call it a "Special Military Operation" and threaten people with jail if they call it a war?

Russia hands down first prison term for anti-war remarks

European borders have changed continually across centuries.
US policy makers know this, and they manipulate ethnic, religious, and cultural divides to advance the interest of western capital accumulation.
The current bloodshed in Ukraine is only the most recent example of this cynical application of the "rules based" global order:

"The modern state of "Ukraine" is a completely artificial creation by the German occupation in World War I and the Soviet Union.

"It contains huge numbers of former Russian territories.

"In the case of Crimea, over 90% of its people voted to join Russia in an election, and according to a recent poll conducted by the Bloomberg contributor Leonid Bershidsky, a year after annexation a whopping majority of Crimeans (82%) support their region's full inclusion in Russia while only 4% spoke out against it.

"Few reasonable people dispute the fact that this is the will of the Crimean people.

"Russian President Vladimir Putin admitted mistakes in the mobilization of 300,000 Russians to fight in Ukraine. His announcement last week sparked an exodus of Russians fleeing across the border to avoid being conscripted."

Those 300,000 Russians were reservists who were recalled to active duty, and they are about to make their presence felt in Ukraine:

https://consortiumnews.com/2023/01/11/scott-ritter-2023-outlook-for-ukraine/

"Russia, on the other hand, is in the process of finalizing a mobilization of more than 300,000 men who appear to be equipped with the most advanced weapons systems in the Russian arsenal.

"When these forces arrive in full on the battlefield, sometime by the end of January, Ukraine will have no response.

"This harsh reality, when coupled with the annexation by Russia of more than 20 percent of Ukraine’s territory and infrastructure damage approaching $1 trillion, bodes ill for the future of Ukraine.

"There is an old Russian saying, 'A Russian harnesses slowly but rides fast.'

"This appears to be what is transpiring regarding the Russian-Ukraine conflict"

Really? "Few Reasonable people"?

The referendum was illegal under the Constitution of Ukraine.[16] It is not recognized by most countries,[17] usually because of the presence of Russian forces.[18] Thirteen members of the United Nations Security Council voted in favor of a resolution declaring the referendum invalid, but Russia vetoed it and China abstained.[19][20] A United Nations General Assembly resolution was later adopted, by a vote of 100 in favor vs. 11 against with 58 abstentions, which declared the referendum invalid and affirmed Ukraine's territorial integrity

Why the Crimean Referendum Is Illegitimate

And of course there are the thousands of convicts being released if they agree to fight. Please explain why Putin/Wagner recruits are from Russian prisons.

Why the Crimean Referendum Is Illegitimate

"The official result from the Autonomous Republic of Crimea was a 97 percent vote for integration of the region into the Russian Federation, with an 83 percent voter turnout, and from Sevastopol there was also a 97 percent vote for integration with Russia, with an 89 percent voter turnout."

No information on the number of voters supporting a US-sponsored coup in Kiev designed to foster regime change in Moscow. An illegitimate referendum could be viewed as a legitimate correction to an illegal coup.

Did you know Russian troops in Crimea voted?
