NPR corrects its own fact-check on flu death statistic

NPR had to fact-check its own fact-check, showing President Trump wasn’t wrong after all when he said over 50,000 Americans could die from the flu this year.

On Monday, NPR published a story headlined, “FACT CHECK: Trump Says 50,000 Could Die From Flu. So Far, It’s Half That.”

The story quoted Trump recently saying, “We have a lot of people dying from the flu on top of everything else… it looks like it could be over 50,000."

NPR wrote “the reality so far for the current flu season is about half as severe as the president said,” pointing to a statistic from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that roughly 23,000 people have died from the flu during the 2019-20 season.

NPR was forced to issue a correction on Wednesday.

“The initial version of this story said the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimated there have been about 23,000 deaths during the current flu season. That figure is at the lowest end of the CDC's estimated range, which extends to 59,000,” NPR added beneath the now-edited story.

NPR’s headline has been changed to “FACT CHECK: Trump Says 50,000 Could Die From Flu,” omitting the original part about only half of that number dying.

The story now indicates that Trump said “over 50,000” people might die from the flu and the "upper range of the estimate for deaths is 59,000,” according to the CDC.

Even when he's right, he's wrong. At least NPR had the balls to admit the lied.

in it's simplest form... everything..the virus, its spread, the effects, the states, down to the viral level.. it is all trumps fault..

it's mind numbing..

The truth is that most of the c19 deaths are actually flu deaths

Come election day, people will ask themselves, "am I better or worse off than I was 4 years ago?" and they are doling that jet ski money way to early in the election cycle for people to forget about being unemployed for months.

Will they remember that Trump tried to coerce another country into aiding his re-election? Will they be reminded that he told the states requesting federal help that he is not a shipping agency, but was certainly willing to help North Korea. Will the people who hated Obama's GM bailout know that Trump initiated a trade war with China that forced him to bailout farmers for even more cash? Will anyone think about the fact that Trump betrayed our allies, the Kurds, and let Turkey slaughter them? Will the national debt come to their attention? Trump has now borrowed $4 trillion to pay for his tax cuts....and he's been on a fairly constant cycle of campaign stops and golf weekends for three f*cking years?

You call it a lie.. A lie would be if they had not corrected the story. In fact, the flu season runs December thru March...and their report was "SO FAR IT IS HALF THAT".

It's scary when major news networks are oblivious to epidemics they cant blame on their political enemies.

From the link you failed to read.
Most of the time flu activity peaks between December and February, although activity can last as late as May.

The flu season is Sept to April every year

Grow up and be a man already
Feel free to read the link. The point was about the estimate of potential fatalities for this flu season, keeping in mind that the season is almost over...

You may now continue with your childish and irrelevant rant.

1. They admitted there was an error in the report. I pointed out the facts. They were not incorrect, but the report could have been clearer. They fixed it.

2. Good luck finding such an admission from Fox.

99 percent of c19 deaths are the flu. The remaining might be the real contagion, but not in your deluded mind because the fake government that you believe in never lies
