Obama Fires His First Round At His Figurative Fort Sumter

(If you haven't purchased your weapons or your full complement of ammunition, yet, it may be too late. Impeachment time is nigh! He's been spoiling for a fight for a long time now and just threw the first punch.)

"Unreal: Obama Uses Executive Authority To Make Recess Appointment Even Though Congress Is In Session…

Last time I checked we’re in America, not Venezuela (where another Marxist abuses his power).

This is just the beginning.

WASHINGTON (AP) — In a defiant display of executive power, President Barack Obama on Wednesday will buck GOP opposition and name Richard Cordray as the nation’s chief consumer watchdog even though the Senate contends the move is inappropriate, senior administration officials told The Associated Press

With a director in place, the new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau will be able to start overseeing the mortgage companies, payday lenders, debt collectors and other financial companies often blamed for practices that helped tank the economy.

Obama’s decision to make a recess appointment is certain to cause an uproar from Capitol Hill to Wall Street. He is essentially declaring the Senate’s short off-and-on legislative sessions a sham intended to block his appointments.

The White House is expecting considerable criticism and perhaps a court challenge, but says Obama was left with little choice to get the consumer agency fully running after months of stalemate.

Acting right after Tuesday’s GOP presidential caucuses in Iowa, Obama is seeking to grab attention and show voters that he will advocate for the middle class no matter what the opposition. It is his most bare-knuckle initiative so far in his campaign of taking action without waiting for Congress."

use the word obama and fires in the topic and GG will be the first there to reply.

I thought conservatives were all for an up and down vote for Presidential appointees? Or is that only for Republican Presidents?

Anyway, delaying the vote on the nominee for the CFPB not because he isn't qualified but because of sour grapes over the passage of the original legislation is f'n ludicrous. Republicans had their chance at the original bill, and if they're not happy with it, introduce legislation to change it. Nullification is not an option.

Looks like maybe the republicons should have approved Elizabeth Warren when they had their chance. Now she is going to cost them a Senate seat! LMAO!!

Yes your right. Sounds to me like this guy is well educated for the job.
Finally we will get the agency up and running, as we need a consumer protection agency to make sure the financial industry in America does what it is entitled to do, not what it wants to do.

The top poster appears to be suggesting that the rabble will take up arms and pitchforks in response to Obama's forming a Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

That sounds like a bit of a stretch to me. Some aspect of the rabble knows in its "heart" that it's supposed to fear/hate anything and everything Obama might do. But I'm guessing that in order for them to take up arms and pitchforks, even they would require a little more information - such as...WHY they should be hating on a Consumer Financial Protection Bureau?

On a sidenote: This points out the rather historic (imho) contradiction that today's Fox/GOP has become. If you listen to ANY GOP-on-a-stump these days, you'll hear him or her hating to high heaven, on (their) "fact" that Obama "bailed out" the evil banksters and Wall Streeters. And at the same time, they're hating on the very provisions Obama has suggested and/or put in place, to forestall future Bank/Wall Street "mistakes".

Remember the nuclear option? When Democrats were filibustering some of Bush's judicial nominees, conservatives threatened to go nuclear on the process and eliminate the filibuster for presidential appointees.

Now when President Obama goes nuclear in a very minor way, conservatives have a conniption fit. Go figure.

tobacco can't REALLY think there'll be an impeachment in an election year....

must be building on "Plan B" for if "the impossible happens" and the President is re-elected.

I did see an "Impeach Obama" sign at the Rose Bowl Parade

Exactly what constitutes a "High crime and misdeameanor"? Impeach! Impeach! Impeach! America is shortly going to be ungovernable as Pat Caddell and Doug Schoen predicted

And yea, Congress is in session today.

Glad you asked

Exactly what constitutes a "High crime and misdeameanor"?
Misdemeanor means "bad behavior". It was inserted by the Founders to cover all the bases. lLevel the playing field so to speak. Understand that Congress didn't have to even bring up Clinton's lying in court. The cigar deal was aplenty.

Indeed, the House could vote to impeach Obama for wearing shorts and a tee shirt on State of the Union night...even if his plane from Hawaii were to be late.

Lord knows there are plenty of reasons, but there's an acute shortage of testicles in Washington right now and who wants to be called a racist anyway?

(Highly appropriate artwork and illustration. Obama recess appoints three NLRB officials)

"WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) — In addition to the recess appointment of Richard Cordray to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, President Barack Obama said in a statement Wednesday he will recess-appoint three people to the National Labor Relations Board. The three, Sharon Block, Terence Flynn and Richard Griffin, would allow the controversial board to continue to operate, since at the moment it only has two members and quorum rules require that at least three be present. Senate Republicans had sought to block the appointments."

(President "A Law wholly unto himself" violates his own precepts. How do you spell "Burgeoning Constitutional Crisis"?

"President Obama today made an unprecedented “recess” appointment even though the Senate is not in recess — “a sharp departure from a long-standing precedent that has limited the President to recess appointments only when the Senate is in a recess of 10 days or longer,” according to Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY).

It turns out that the action not only contradicts long-standing practice, but also the view of the administration itself. In 2010, Deputy Solicitor General Neal Katyal explained to the Supreme Court the Obama administration’s view that recess appointments are only permissible when Congress is in recess for more than three days. Here’s the exchange with Chief Justice John Roberts:

CHIEF JUSTICE ROBERTS: And the recess appointment power doesn’t work why?

MR. KATYAL: The — the recess appointment power can work in — in a recess. I think our office has opined the recess has to be longer than 3 days. And — and so, it is potentially available to avert the future crisis that — that could — that could take place with respect to the board. If there are no other questions —

CHIEF JUSTICE ROBERTS: Thank you, counsel."
