Seven years ago, Loukanikos, aged 10, died from inhalation of tear gas. Loukanikos (named for a Greek sausage), a “ginger mongrel” of a stray dog, joined labor and anarchist “riots” in his home country of Greece, spontaneously taking the side of protesters against police based on his canine brain’s instinctual recognition of the dividing line between the fearless creativity beckoning humanity from its angelic future and the repressive cruelty surviving as an atavism of its simian past. In this he had a kindred spirit in Negro Matapacos (“Black Cop-Killer”) (c2009-2017), the famous mutt who took part in leftist student “riots” in Chile. They were both very good boys.
