Penn Supreme Court writes law saying renters cannot be evicted

Courts aren't supposed to write laws, that's what legislators are for. But this is a bad law, anyway. How are the landlords supposed to pay their bills when their tenants don't have to pay rent.?

march 31 2020 Pennsylvania’s attorney general is sending a strong reminder to landlords and mortgage lenders statewide that they cannot evict residents from their homes during the coronavirus pandemic.

The state Supreme Court had ordered courts closed, including the suspension of all eviction proceedings, due to the COVID-19 state of emergency. The court’s order is applicable to all Pennsylvania property owners, managers, landlords, as well as mortgage brokers and lenders.

Mr. Shapiro’s letter is going further, urging landlords and lenders to extend the time that eviction proceedings are suspended, beyond what the court requires, to allow residents time “to get back on their feet.”

The renters say they lost their job and have no way of paying rent but they get unemployment insurance plus $600 every week on top of that. They can pay - they just don't want to.

1. Where did you get that claim about their income?
2. How much is their rent and how much are their other expenses?
3. It doesn’t matter whether they can pay (in your opinion) or not, there won’t be any eviction proceedings because the courts are closed.
