The issue was did Rittenhouse go on a rampage that was caught on film, or did Rittenhouse get caught up in a mob of thieves and anarchists who were trying to kill him for interfering with the flow of their peaceable assembly that just happened to involve fire, destruction, theft, violence, etc. Oh, and an attempt to rush and beat the teen to death.

He didn’t “get caught up” with anyone. He crossed state lines and a police barricade to put himself in the situation he was in, so he had a pretext for the rampage that was very much caught on film. He had NO self-defense claim because he was the aggressor. Not does one person (likely a police provocateur as usual) starting a fire mean that everyone else involved in the same protest forfeits their right to life.
