That the U.S. is rife with gang violence, suicides, and drug overdoses is symptomatic of an empire in decline.
Check death by bad alcohol in Iran...………...go

You're almost proof book readers are very uninformed of the real world!

Perhaps I should have said ... symptomatic of a capitalist system in decline.

I feel a bit lightheaded. Maybe you should drive.
Well, yes, the fact that every major advance in human culture since the dawn of civilization has been occasions by the redistribution of property does tend to bolster the case for the redistribution of property from the descendants of thieves to the productive masses.
And yet you protest when I point out how ultra-authoritarian that requires your movement to be.

Since the welfare state went on steroids...you forgot that part.
The welfare state is a response to the underlying problems of systemic unemployment, high prices, and low wages. It is keeping the capitalist system functional by keeping enough workers alive and satisfied enough to eschew revolutionary action.

“Wanting to abolish authority in large-scale industry is tantamount to wanting to abolish industry itself, to destroy the power loom in order to return to the spinning wheel.”

“But the necessity of authority, and of imperious authority at that, will nowhere be found more evident than on board a ship on the high seas. There, in time of danger, the lives of all depend on the instantaneous and absolute obedience of all to the will of one.”

“Why do the anti-authoritarians not confine themselves to crying out against political authority, the state? All Socialists are agreed that the political state, and with it political authority, will disappear as a result of the coming social revolution, that is, that public functions will lose their political character and will be transformed into the simple administrative functions of watching over the true interests of society. But the anti-authoritarians demand that the political state be abolished at one stroke, even before the social conditions that gave birth to it have been destroyed. They demand that the first act of the social revolution shall be the abolition of authority. Have these gentlemen ever seen a revolution? A revolution is certainly the most authoritarian thing there is; it is the act whereby one part of the population imposes its will upon the other part by means of rifles, bayonets and cannon — authoritarian means, if such there be at all; and if the victorious party does not want to have fought in vain, it must maintain this rule by means of the terror which its arms inspire in the reactionists.”

Yes, the necessary authoritarianism needed to force us all into compliance will be done away with just as soon as economic nirvana is reached. But it just never seems to arrive. We all want unicorns that shit skittles, but the communists have proven themselves unable or unwilling to deliver on their promises.

No, it's a response to have nots discovering that they can vote themselves into the pockets of the haves. Then it becomes the "underlying problem."

“The necessary authoritarianism” and the state in general are made possible by class society, that is, by private property. Communists have not succeeded in abolishing private property because the international revolution is not yet completed. But it is a historical fact that with each victory for communism the workers’ states (USSR, China, Cuba, etc.) became less authoritarian and that with each victory for reaction they became more authoritarian.
