Signs you are in a cult

EatTheRich

President
Listen up Trumpies and see if this sounds familiar.

1. The leader is the ultimate authority
If you’re not allowed to criticize your leader, even if the criticism is true, you’re probably in a cult.Cults begin with a charismatic leader who claims some supreme knowledge. They may call themselves a prophet, messiah, messenger, or an enlightened teacher. They can also be CEOs, military officials, politicians, and self-help guru

2. The group suppresses skepticism
If you’re only allowed to study your organization through approved sources, you’re probably in a cult.

3. The group delegitimizes former members
If you can’t think of a legitimate reason for leaving your group, you’re probably in a cult.

Because the cult considers itself the ultimate authority on truth, it can’t imagine anybody leaving it with their integrity intact. Thus, it has to perpetuate a false narrative that former members were deceived, proud, immoral, or lazy.

If former members speak out, they are dismissed as bitter, angry, dishonest or evil. Cults often impose some kind of shunning to shame former members and prevent them from infecting other members with the truth.

4. The group is paranoid about the outside world
If your group insists the end of the world is near, you’re probably in a cult.

Cults position themselves as the sole refuge from an evil outside world that is intent on their destruction. Cults thrive on conspiracy theories, catastrophic thinking, and persecution complexes.

5. The Group Is Elitist

Essentially, this means that the group — and its leader — consider themselves to be the cream of the crop. They aren’t mere mortals; they’re on a special mission to save humanity.

6. The leader is above the law
If you’re held to a different moral standard, specifically in regard to sex, you’re probably in a cult.

A prevalent idea among cult leaders is that they are above the law, be it human or divine.

7. The Ends Justify the Means

Basically, this means that the group’s mission — whatever it is — is to be held in the highest regard. Higher, even, than the laws and mores which dictate how non-members behave

8. The Leader Is Not Accountable to Other Authorities

This is a big one.

A cult leader, as the being who is in charge of the group, does not answer to any other authorities.

9. There is no financial transparency
If you’re not allowed to know what the group does with their money, you’re probably in a cult.

10. Fear and Dread

Most — if not all — cult members feel fear. It may be set aside briefly during group activities or gatherings, but it’s there. Even the most devoted members fear what may happen to them should they choose to leave (or even consider leaving) the group.

Efforts to mitigate the progress of a scientifically sound and tested observation, from a wide variety of scientific disciplines on the subject, is not cultism.

But basing your scientific opinions on which people or groups your cult hates is cultism.

You are saying more about yourself with this post.

They’re frustrated. Many hold certain alarmist beliefs that do not resonate with the American people. Many want more attention dedicated to their research. Some merely get it wrong, or are mislead by the few outlets that are in the business of fudging data. Some wish to remain scientifically relevant even in the face of their constantly moving targets and expectations.

Oftentimes the climate scientist data is reported accurately, but completely misinterpreted by the politically motivated.

Your 1st link makes it very clear that the legitimate scientists are evidence-oriented, not goal-oriented, and that they promptly correct errors when discovered even if it means moving closer to the conclusions that, regardless of the evidence, you insist be reached

Your 2nd link states as fact that the atmosphere is warming and that CO2 emissions contribute to that warming. Do you agree? It also states reasons for disagreeing with the vast majority of scientists in every country in the world, holding a wide variety of political positions (left, center, and right) and embracing an extreme-minority position held only by a few scientists on the right in a handful of countries.

Do you agree with that small minority because you have the expertise to compare their models to those used by the majority? Or because you are repeating what you were told to repeat?

Never mind, your third link clears that up. In the real world, your “skeptics” have been caught fudging the data over and over while scientists supporting the consensus position never have.

The Right is always right
Their position is more extreme that I even thought it was. Forget charging him and his with a crime. They say Law Enforcement can't even look to see if he committed one in the first place.
Law enforcement is tired of going down left wing rabbit shitholes. Your conspiracies and false accusations have no meaning to anyone. This isn't difficult.

So they lie because they are frustrated, hold certain alarmist beliefs that do not resonate with the American people, or want more attention dedicated to their research.

But somehow you don't think that same reasoning would not be applied more correctly to the anti climate change scientist. Where much greater individual publicity because of your relatively and absolute smaller number would garner you a much greater individual share of relief from frustration. Give credence to your beliefs that do not resonate with the public, and draw much more attention to your research because of the scarcity of this scientific point of view.

I’m not sure your thoughts on the numbers are entirely accurate. The opinion is clearly not scarce. It is widely varied.

Yeah it is. Their numbers are few and far between in comparison to the scientific community as a whole who do not share their beliefs; they are very few and far between.

Simply not true. You would need to separate those who believe the earth is warming with those who do not versus it is warming unnaturally versus those who think man’s actions are increasing it. Those who think it can be reversed versus it doesn’t need to be, and so on.
No, they simply don’t all agree.

The fake 97% number of course.
Pathetic you’d still have the nerve to still be using it.
Post Mann’s hockey-stick graph next.
They list several polls, not all of them are 97% but they do show the significant percentage difference between deniers and those that accept the science and its conclusions.

Highly dubious numbers.

https://climatechangedispatch.com/97-articles-refuting-the-97-consensus/

a Canada-based group calling itself Friends of Science has just completed a review of the four main studies used to document the alleged consensus and foundthat only 1 - 3% of respondents "explicitly stated agreement with the IPCC declarations on global warming," and that there was "no agreement with a catastrophic view."
