The reason to open up the magnetometers for Trump's rally on 1/6 was to increase its size and not leave people outside of the circle (they did say he was crowd size obsessed). Trump was willing to run the risk that armed lefties weren't in the crowd.

Then we have Trump wanting to go to the capitol and again risk no armed lefties in the crowd.

Doesn't sound to me like he wanted armed followers to shoot up the capitol. Sounds to me like he wanted to expedite the experience for rally attendees to be there to stop the steal. Given his treatment regarding collusion with Russia and extortion of Ukraine (both fully vindicated as lies) you can see how he and so many believe the election was stolen.
