Tax the Rich

The top 1% of taxpayers, ranked by income, failed to pay about $163 billion in taxes last year—making up about 28% of the nation's growing tax gap. In the report, the Treasury said the wealthiest Americans account for the bulk of tax evasion because higher-income taxpayers have the financial resources to “tap into the services of accountants and tax preparers who help shield them from bearing their true income tax liability.” At least 55 of the nation’s largest corporations paid nothing in federal taxes last year.

Richest 5% Of Americans ‘Choose Not To Pay’ $307 Billion In Taxes Each Year, Treasury Reports (forbes.com)

Gee, if we raise taxes on the wealthy and corps and collect those taxes, we'll have no problem paying for infrastructure.

Sorry, AOC: The rich already pay their fair share (nypost.com)

Will you say same of 50+% of Americans that pay NO income taxes?

Hey, they use the roads and bridges

Since Reagan, AM talk radio has brainwashed their listeners to believe the falsehood that if the rich pay more taxes, that they will take it out on the peons.
Rightwing cable TV then picked it up.

And it still holds true for today's trump-repubs.
I'd ask, what's it like to be controlled by the wealthy (GOP) to protect their interests (READ greed) and not your own?

Democrat in the White House.

Democrats control the House.

Democrats control the Senate.

So, why aren't they taxing the evil rich?

Must be some Republican's fault....

Trump cut taxes for the rich (for himself) as soon as he took office, as all Republicans do, and Democrats plan to right those wrongs....to pay for infrastructure.

Here's a good read.

I assume if it's in fact a falsehood no one will mind the summary removal of all refunds and credits...across the board....

Trump's gone.

Why don't the people actually in charge now do something about your issue?

I'm guessing you have no answer, and will try to deflect.

We'll see.
The current theory behind taxation is referred to as the "money factor". The idea is to tax money every time it changes hands. I would support a plan to completely rewire the tax code. We need to evaluate how taxation affects our ability to compete in international markets as well as job creation.

It is possible that if we eliminated corporate taxes that we'd have corporations relocating to the US without creating a single job in the US. If we eliminated personal income taxes we would see corporations move to countries with lower corporate taxes, but put their labor intensive operations here...creating jobs, but with no federal revenue.

There once was a software package called "Balance of the Planet" that would allow you to play these scenarios out. It was pretty interesting...but as an example, Ireland set up a temporary 3% manufacturers tax....Dell moved quite a few jobs to Ireland. Worked out well for Ireland, not so good for the people who used to work for Dell in Texas. When Ireland eliminated that tax break Dell moved those jobs to Eastern Europe. The job losses hit Irish communities pretty hard.
