CNN this morning had a 10 or 15 minute segment by Fareed. He compared the US to Russia and China. It was an amazing deconstruction on those who are sure the US is declining and that disaster is imminent. His fact by fact analysis of the US capacity and power was really enlightening. Our strengths are incredible and put the US head and shoulders above our rivals. Our aid for Ukraine has made them a powerful military force capable of tearing down the facade of Russian power and without a single American soldier being in danger. Our ability to produce energy dwarfs any other nation.

I'm sure it will be available on CNN.com. Look it up. The transcript isn't available yet.

How many Ukrainians have been killed, maimed, and displaced to advance US investment prospects in their homeland?

Do you think it's likely Fareed will profit from privatization efforts in Ukraine?

"Ukraine is already opening up for investment.

"In December last year, as Kiev and BlackRock were months into their discussions, the Ukrainian parliament rammed through property developer–backed legislation that had stalled prior to the war, deregulating urban planning laws to the benefit of a private sector that has been hungrily eyeing the demolition of historic sites.

"It comes on top of parliament’s earlier assault on the country’s Soviet-era labor laws, legalizing zero-hour contracts, weakening the power of unions, and stripping labor protections from 70 percent of its workforce.

"That particular change was advised not by BlackRock, but the British foreign office under Boris Johnson, and pushed by Zelensky’s party, which charged that the 'extreme over-regulation of employment contradicts the principles of market self-regulation' and “creates bureaucratic barriers . . . for the self-realization of employees.”'"

Were you thinking Putin's invasion plan was concerned with how many Ukrainians they killed? Ukrainians fought back against overwhelming odds to preserve their nation from domination by the Kremlin.

The US and Nato did not start the war. Putin did. It is offensive at all levels to accuse those who have come together to help Ukraine of encouraging the slaughter so they could profit.

Putin's essentially a center-right Republican tied at the hip to certain capitalist oligarchs in Russia. While Putin bears responsibility for the invasion of Ukraine, such a response would not have been necessary absent the last 30 years of Cold War 2.0 sponsored by western capitalists looking the exploit Ukrainian and Russian resources:

https://original.antiwar.com/scott/2022/03/02/the-history-behind-the-russia-ukraine-war/

"Just this last Christmas day (2021) was the 30th anniversary of the last day of the USSR. The Communists’ red flag came down, the Red, White and Blue Russian standard went up in its place. The Cold War with the Soviet Union was over.

"The evil empire was dead.

"But then the administrations of Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama, Donald Trump and Joe Biden ruined our great peace and victory at the end of the last Cold War. Instead, they got us into this mess.

"This was primarily due to the policies of NATO expansion, tearing up important nuclear treaties, the installation of missile defense systems in Eastern Europe, overthrowing multiple governments friendly to Russia, including Ukraine twice in 10 years, spending the last 5 years sending sophisticated arms to Ukraine and increasing harassment by American Navy ships and Air Force planes in the Black, Baltic and Okhotsk seas.

"They were warned.

"They thought it would be fine.

"It wasn’t."

I just read parts of it.
Some of the content gave the many the reasons we need to applaud our accomplishments and all the ways that make our country the best place to be/live. :)
I heard an expert economist recently make the comment, other countries would love to be where we are re: our system of finance/ currency.
________________________________________

From the transcript on your link:

China's state-owned banks are saddled with huge government debt and cannot operate in the open global finance system because that would almost certainly trigger massive outflows of funds as businesspeople seek to move their money to safer havens. And despite many challenges and efforts to unseat it, the dollar remains the global reserve currency as the IMF managing directly recently said, which gives America a financial superpower.

It is one I worry we are misusing which will trigger even more efforts to replace it but there is no denying that the dollar for now reigns supreme.

Putin's invasion was not justified...you claim it was necessary.

Raoul_Luke

I feel a bit lightheaded. Maybe you should drive.
Can you refute one single point he made? Nah. So since you can't...plan B is to call him a hack and post polling data.
It's all bureaucratic gaslighting. If everything is going so well, why is it so many Americans believe we are on the wrong track? The bureaucrats develop metrics that show they are doing a bang up job while Americans keep falling further and further behind. Who are they going to believe, you, or their lying eyes?

Once again...you comment on what Fareed said without actually knowing what he said.
Start at "My Take".

It doesn't matter what he said - it is all gaslighting the American people, who are well aware that we are experiencing a slow motion train wreck.
In a thread about what Fareed said...you now post that it doesn't matter what he said.

Unreal. Thanks for posting on the topic....

Putin's SMO was a defensive response to 33 years of western imperialism including a US-engineered coup in Ukraine that drove a democratically elected president from office::

https://cpmaine.org/2022/03/10/ukraine-as-the-geopolitical-pivot-the-u-s-grand-strategy-1991-2022-by-the-editors-of-monthly-review/

"Since the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, NATO has absorbed fifteen countries, all to the East, which were previously part of the Warsaw Pact or were regions within the Soviet Union.

"On its East, along the borders of Russia, Belarus, and Ukraine, NATO has seen a major military buildup.

"It currently has an air presence in Estonia, Lithuania, and Romania. U.S. troops and NATO multinational troops are massed in Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, and Romania.

"NATO missile defense facilities are located in Poland and Romania.

"The object of all of these forward military installations (not to mention those in Central and Western Europe) is Russia (“Here’s Where Alliance Forces Are Deployed Across Eastern Europe,' CNN, February 10, 2022; 'Why Russia Wanted Security Guarantees from the West,' Strategic Culture Foundation, February 27, 2022)."

SMO? You mean war? Playing games with the re-definition of invasion and war by calling it a "special military operation" is hilarious...

Damn those countries for wanting DEFENSIVE missile systems. What right do they have to make it harder for Russia to destroy their cities?

So you say NATO "absorbed" 15 countries. Does NATO now have representatives in their governments? Do they have control of their economies?

The countries that joined NATO did so because they had been occupied by Russian troops and were forced to have policies favorable to the Kremlin. Those countries that approached democratic elections were invaded....Hungary in 1956, Czechoslovakia in 1968, Afghanistan in 1979...Ukraine in 2014.

Putin's Special Military Operation keeps the lights on in Kiev as opposed to Fallujah. Putin's defending his border from a NATO puppet installed by an illegal coup designed to force regime change in Moscow. The US has displaced millions of innocent civilians since 1945 for economic gain and Ukrainians are the latest (but not its last) victims.

So right.

What I like about Fareed is that he knows how our bravado, when not used right, can lead to our destruction.

DEFENSIVE missile systems alleged to protect Poland from a (non-existent) Iranian threat, AND which can be repurposed to launch OFFENSIVE nuclear missiles toward Moscow; have you forgotten how JFK responded to a similar provocation?

When did Iran come into the conversation?

Do you know something that we don't?

"Washington D.C., May 10, 2017 – The United States’ cautious response to the unexpectedly powerful popular uprising in Hungary in 1956 grew out of the Eisenhower administration’s policy of 'keeping the pot boiling' in Eastern Europe without having it 'boil over' into a possible nuclear conflict, according to an unpublished Defense Department historical study posted for the first time by the National Security Archive at The George Washington University."
