Thanks to the Supreme Court, they will make even more in 2014, 2016, and on into the future, America, where election are for sale to the highest bidder.

Imagine how the GOPpers feel after spending that much for Romney too!

Obama: $1.123 billion vs. Romney: $1.019 billion.Barack Obama, Mitt Romney both topped $1 billion in 2012

I don't mind it so much. The contributions are voluntary and the money's injected back into our local economies. Although....it's a pisser that the "purple" states get the bulk of the dough, while the blues and reds get stiffed.

To put it into perspective though, I think the money spent each year on Halloween dwarfs what was spent in both campaigns. It is still a disgusting artifact of Citizens though...

In a way it is "sickening", but in another way, it's what needed to be done.

People (certain people) thought that Citizens United would get rid of President Obama. Nut-wing, crackpot kooks would come outta the wood work with their checkbooks, and President Obama would serve only one term, "installing" fill in the blank __________ as the new Repub president. We saw evidence of it during the Repub primaries.

President Obama, as we all know now, had a broad base of small donors. Romney, expectedly, had no such sh*t.

And according to your linked article, the Romney "nut-wing Super Pac infusion" brought in almost double the money of the Super Pacs supporting Obama.

And going back to "small donors"? The Obama campaign, with their superior data gathering, nickled and dimed us to death with the "$3.00 here, $11.00 there" emails.
Brilliant. We gave, and it worked. They weren't greedy.

And finally, yes, you're right. All the money spent on trying to make Romney a credible candidate for president was basically thrown in the fireplace.

And I forgot to add that the Obama campaign was wicked smart and effective (also from your link), in the way that they used their money.

The Romney campaign's use of money was incompetent from a supposedly brilliant CEO (guy that "knows" how the economy works).

Geesh.

All money spent by Obama and pacs supporting him came in around 1.7 billion. Romney was over 2 billion, maybe much more.

Blame the blanking Republicans on the USSC! What did they expect when they turned the election over to the big money men?

You cannot expect Obama and the Dems to roll over and play dead. The funny thing is,all that money and it did not work! They still lost.

Just like all the Republican dirty tricks to stop people from voting. All it did was to make them angry and they turned out in mass to vote.It will be even worse next time because all the Republican state Governments just keep right on with the dirty tricks.

We would have a Republican House right now except for the gerrymanding in those states.People are well aware now of what is taking place. But their group is getting smaller at each election as young people become old enough to vote.

Republicans are fighting among them selves. It is really almost comical,if it were not hurting the country.

Just what I said!) I keep thinking of Jerry Reed.'All that exercise and we are still gonna die!' Republicans did.

Boehner is looking like a cornered rat. He is damned if he does and damned if he does not. Cantor and McCarthy are right behind him with the shiv ready to stick in his back. They said they only need 16 votes to get rid of him. Cons do love to get rid of their leaders, big time.Just ask Newt!

that the unions spent almost half of that should give you some clue as to where this country will be headed for the next 4 years.
