A gun control activists who remained silent while her mentally challenged child amassed an arsenal in the basement.

wait - maybe the mother is mentally challenged, too?
very possible
Background checks were useless as teets on boar hogs

I'm one of the deplorables lefty warns you about.
What reform would you suggest? I want universal background checks and strict enforcement of laws related to private sales. If someone sells a gun without a background check and a crime is committed...they are complicit in the crime.

I wouldn't mind an Ammunition Purchase license as long as it didn't involve a mechanism to trace gun ownership, but simply acted as a way for someone to buy ammo for a weapon they own.
Honest question...would the ammo purchase license allow one to purchase any ammo they choose or would that license dictate the calibers available to each individual?

It is very obvious you know very little about the majority of gun owners. Your response is pitiful. Guns do not load themselves, aim for a target and go off by themselves. The mental health issues in our Country NEED to be addressed.
And gun crimes do not happen without a gun.

Say…”gun crimes do not happen without target victims”. Ban ‘em, right? Why would we ever actually focus on the active AGENCY - the bad guy/gal and his/her evil and mental disease?

Tools, as usual, are not cause agent. Tools, however, seem to insist that we focus on them…

Just as the Democratic controlled house did previously. NEITHER party has done a damn thing to help.
Does Tennessee have a red flag law? No. The proposed law has been held up for a couple of years....27 republicans and 6 Democrats in the Senate...75 republicans in the house...24 democrats.

So let's put you down as having a solution that doesn't restrict the possession of guns to legal gun owners. What, exactly, is your solution?

Reports say up until the discovery of her manifesto and such there were no outward signs of a problem, she was able to purchase these guns legally, and manifested no outwardly facing behaviors that were concerning. Now what?
"She" was undergoing psychiatric care. We have not heard from her therapist. We do not know enough to say that there were no signs of a problem. I will wait to know more rather than jumping to a conclusion that there is nothing to be done.

Hammer the good guys with yet another layer of laws and restrictions, of course. Then…when the next nutcase butchers innocents…slam the good guys with still more - maybe ratchet it up to include ammunition, caliber availability…gee whiz, does anyone need hollow points? Then, when the next lunatic kills, pummel the good guys with more restrictions. Again, and again, and again.

Just do NOT address the criminal/insane. To do that doesn’t move the needle on political agenda.

How often to you sell guns? I've sold one to a private buyer and went to the local shop to get a background check on him. $25 and took about 15 minutes. You call that being hammered by a layer of laws?

Who's jumping to a conclusion? The fact of the matter is that she was batshit crazy, and that therapist probably should have spoken the hell up, if not the therapist whomever nearby that happened to notice her coat and guns around and scowling at everybody or whatever the hell she was doing

Facts of the matter are that this individual is insane, like all the others before. But here we are once again on the round robin of pointing everywhere but at the problem. It's a shame that this shooter wasn't a white dude so that the peanut gallery could go to town like they usually do.

For sure the “tranny factor” throws a wrench in the narrative works. But at least it WAS white or white-ish. And those guns…they need addressing. Again. Just no top posted clamoring for identifying/addressing lunatics.

In the absence of a Red Flag law, a therapist could lose their license to practice by revealing information about diagnosis.

Tennessee has a pretty lax open carry law...

There must be more than one path to lessen the carnage. Part of the problem is certainly that this individual must certainly have been exhibiting signs of a violent nature that should have been flagged.

I'm in favor of looking at any proposal that might help.

Red Flag is one possible solution.

My thought was to provide an APL to someone when they buy a gun for the first time. On the card would be the person's picture and embedded on the chip would be the serial number and caliber of weapons this individual legally owns. You can only buy ammo in the caliber of weapons on the card. If you sell the gun then the entry on your card is removed.

This would mean that everytime someone buys ammo it would be verified that the individual had passed a background check.

There would be no centralized data base that would identify gun owners.
