Totalitarian Is As Totalitarian Does

Bill O’Reilly tries his best to make the Internet the great technological Satan when the award rightly goes to television. He is too well-informed not to know that the government is out to abolish freedom of speech on the Internet, yet he is the only television personalty that I know of who is doing the government’s dirty work.

This excerpt from a great piece by Dennis Prager justifies my contempt for Bill O’Reilly:

It is almost impossible to overstate the power of mass media. If the mass media of a society constantly communicate something — anything — most of the society will believe it. Without mass media, none of the totalitarian regimes of the 20th century would have been possible. Totalitarianism is a new phenomenon because mass media are a new phenomenon.

Bill O’Reilly is a Roman Catholic, a teacher, and a talking head with a very large audience. Any one of the three would identify him as a totalitarian who comes by his love of government naturally:

totalitarian (adjective)

Of, relating to, being, or imposing a form of government in which the political authority exercises absolute and centralized control over all aspects of life, the individual is subordinated to the state, and opposing political and cultural expression is suppressed: "A totalitarian regime crushes all autonomous institutions in its drive to seize the human soul" (Arthur M. Schlesinger, Jr.).

noun
A practitioner or supporter of such a government.

totalitarianism (noun)

I do have one slight disagreement with Dennis Prager.

Totalitarianism is a new phenomenon because mass media are a new phenomenon.

Governments slaughtering their own people in the millions is the only new phenomenon. Every government and every religion ends up totalitarian. Look at where a once free people are at today if you doubt it. When television threw in with everything that was done to get here it was Bill O’Reilly and his kind who laid the groundwork for the butchery that will come to Americans as surely as it comes to the people in every totalitarian government.

Let me point out that everything that gives the government the legal right to murder their own people will be made possible by television. The Ottoman Empire, Nazi Germany, and the Soviet Union notwithstanding, radio and print journalism alone could not have gotten Americans to this point.

If there is any truth in Prager’s closing sentence:

There doesn’t appear to be anything that they cannot persuade most people, in any country, to believe.

Media Much Scarier than Ebola
They’re creating a nationwide hysteria.
By Dennis Prager

http://www.nationalreview.com/article/390768/media-much-scarier-ebola-dennis-prager

the question has to be “Why didn’t television come down on the side of life, instead of doing so much to destroy it?”

Let me close with a brief word about eliminating tax deductible advertising dollars. Corporations and businesses give television all of that money well-knowing where television is taking the country. The rest of us are forced to pay for their beliefs. In short: There is not one logical reason for advertisers to get a free pass for helping media tear down this country.

Whenever Bill O’Reilly gets to moralizing on any topic he manages to get in a plug for the government. He had the moral bit in his teeth last night when he enlightened his audience on the evils of racism:

Move the cursor to 50 seconds and you’ll hear this:

Laws and high level decisions are not based on skin color anymore.

Give O’Reilly the benefit of the doubt and say he was only doing his “Hooray for the federal government” shtick. Should you be less generous than I you might say that O’Reilly is either a fool or he is deliberately lying.

Everything Taqiyya the Liar and his congressional Democrats ever did was driven by racism. Immigration laws and election laws were, and are, totally ignored. Every criminal law decision made by Taqiyya’s Justice Department involving a black on white crime was arrived at because of black racism.

Implementing Taqiyya’s domestic and foreign policies is even more racist than laws and high level decisions. I guess O’Reilly forgot to mention that.

Bill O’Reilly is right in one sense. Laws and high level decisions are not based on white skin color anymore. Question: Tell me one Supreme Court decision that reined in black racism unleashed by the Civil Rights Movement?

Bottom line: Whenever O’Reilly and his kind say anything that makes the federal government look good they are knowingly endorsing more of the hatred and division the growth of the federal government brought to this country. Racism against white Americans tops the list.

The government is way too big and way too powerful. There needs to be a lot of government cuts to realign things.

Yes, RR understood the nature of government very well. Obama is the epitome of everything wrong with government.

He may have understood the nature of government, but he grew it, made it larger. Yes...Saint Ronald GREW government. Added a cabinet position. He increased debt. By a massive amount. Gave amnesty to "illegal" immigrants. His unemployment numbers were over 10%. He traded arms with terrorists.

Perhaps you have your Presidents mixed up.

Yes, RR was great. He inherited the high unemployment from carter and he had to rebuild the military after the democrats let it go to hell. Who ever comes in after Obama will have to do the same, he has gutted the military. We need to find someone as good as RR.

The Sad Legacy of Ronald Reagan

http://mises.org/freemarket_detail.aspx?control=488

On August 2, 1988, President Ronald Reagan announced that he had changed his mind about the pro-union plant-closing bill. He had vetoed it three months earlier, but now let it become law without his signature after intense pressure from presidential nominee George Bush and former Treasury Secretary James Baker, now Bush's campaign chairman. Reagan claimed that only this action would enable him to sign a Congressional trade bill almost unequaled in its anti-consumer protectionism.

Ronald Reagan's faithful followers claim he has used his skills as the Great Communicator to reverse the growth of Leviathan and inaugurate a new era of liberty and free markets. Reagan himself said, "It is time to check and reverse the growth of government."

Yet after nearly eight years of Reaganism, the clamor for more government intervention in the economy was so formidable that Reagan abandoned the free-market position and acquiesced in further crippling of the economy and our liberties. In fact, the number of free-market achievements by the administration are so few that they can be counted on one hand—with fingers left over.

Let's look at the record:

...Reagan assaulted the free-spending Carter administration throughout his campaign in 1980. So how did the Reagan administration do? At the end of the first quarter of 1988, federal spending accounted for 28.7% of "national income."

Even Ford and Carter did a better job at cutting government. Their combined presidential terms account for an increase of 1.4%—compared with Reagan's 3%—in the government's take of "national income." And in nominal terms, there has been a 60% increase in government spending, thanks mainly to Reagan's requested budgets, which were only marginally smaller than the spending Congress voted.

The budget for the Department of Education, which candidate Reagan promised to abolish along with the Department of Energy, has more than doubled to $22.7 billion, Social Security spending has risen from $179 billion in 1981 to $269 billion in 1986. The price of farm programs went from $21.4 billion in 1981 to $51.4 billion in 1987, a 140% increase. And this doesn't count the recently signed $4 billion "drought-relief" measure. Medicare spending in 1981 was $43.5 billion; in 1987 it hit $80 billion. Federal entitlements cost $197.1 billion in 1981—and $477 billion in 1987.

Foreign aid has also risen, from $10 billion to $22 billion. Every year, Reagan asked for more foreign-aid money than the Congress was willing to spend. He also pushed through Congress an $8.4 billion increase in the U.S. "contribution" to the International Monetary Fund.

No...he inherited high interest rates...and Carter appointed Paul Volcker to lead the Fed.

The unemployment rates were slightly elevated during Carter's years, but were down from the Ford years. We hit 8.5% in 1975 under Ford. Carter's highest was 7.1%. Under Reagan, that shot up to 9.7% in 1982 and 9.6% in 1983.

To Craig: Nice misdirection.

Put it this way. RR never was a dictator. Had he used a dictator’s power to strengthen the Constitution in the same way Taqiyya the Liar uses it to tear down the Constitution and the country ask yourself what RR would have done to achieve his goals?

Incidentally, RR created the Department of Veterans Affairs which Democrat bureaucrats turned into the scandal you see now.

Taqiyya the Liar would eliminate any bureaucracy that stands in his way just as he ignores laws, borders, the war against Islam, and everything else he opposes. Not so with RR. Proof: Jimmy Peanuts created the Department of Education and the Department of Energy. RR promised to abolish both if elected but he could not get it done because of Democrat and media opposition. Had RR been like Taqiyya the Liar he would have shutdown the ED for reasons too numerous to cite here, and he would certainly have used dictatorial powers to shutdown the DOE. Note that he promised to eliminate the DOE long before the environmental movement attracted every displaced Communist after the Soviet Union imploded.

Finally, here’s a positive accomplishment for RR. He, more than anyone, brought about the collapse of the Soviet Empire without firing a shot. Name one positive accomplishment you can attribute to Taqiyya the Liar. Please do not cite the ACA and importing diseases.
