Trump demands right to lie with impunity

Bugsy McGurk

Der Fuhrer is poised to issue a diktat against platforms like Twitter for even daring to suggest that his lie-filled tweets are “potentially misleading.”

Our descent into authoritarianism continues, as Trump’s rabble applaud...

He can't do anything... He is putting on an empty show for the fools that comprise the Republican base.

Hey, with these hack judges Trump and Moscow Mitch are ramming through, one never knows. Are Trump’s actions unconstitutional? Absolutely. Will the hack judges so rule? Who knows. The nation slips more toward authoritarianism with each passing day.

All he is going to do is a sign an executive order that right-wingers shake their fists at Twitter and pretend to the victim.

Of course the wingers here will be hard pressed to defend this with a straight face.

He’s throwing red meat to his base - no doubt. I’m sure he also thinks he can intimidate Twitter and other platforms into turning a blind eye to his lies, vicious attacks on people, etc.

Will this apply to schiff ?

Ouch.

When you get an exception to rules that apply to every other editorial organization in America, you risk that exception when you editorialize. CNN, FOX, et al, can be sued for their editorial content. It’s time social media companies faced the same risks.

Hell, it’s past time.

They can be sued, those suits will get immediately tossed for being incredibly stupid.

Tell that to CNN and the Washington Post.

Imagine if tech companies had to settle such suits?

The fix is simple, be a content host without bias, or continue the current bias and be open for lawsuits.

Either one works for me.

Your vigorous support for Trump’s totalitarian move is noted.

Give him a round of applause, won’t you?

Not being biased requires concealing the truth?

So, what you've been doing here for years. Seems fair, no?

Not at all. It means revealing the 'truth' on both sides of the political spectrum. But that's neither here nor there. The real issue is as I stated. If you want to be a 'platform' and reap the immunity that Section 230 provides, you may not editorialize. Period. If you do, then you are no longer a platform and are instead a content editor.

It's really that simple. Facebook, Twitter, InstaGram, Reddit...all are editors and are no longer entitled to Section 230's protection. Just like Fox, MSNBC, The Post, etc.
