She's an investment banker who formerly worked for the US State Department which likely put her in a US Embassy at some point.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natalie_Jaresko

"Natalie Ann Jaresko (Ukrainian: Наталія Енн Яресько; born 24 April 1965) also known as Natalia Ivanivna Yaresko (Ukrainian: Наталія Іванівна Яресько) is an American-born former U.S. State Department official and Ukrainian investment banker who served as Ukraine's Minister of Finance from December 2014 until April 2016."
Yup. I missed that. As you missed how many years she lived in Ukraine, her parents were Ukrainian and her children live there.

"Peace could have been a possibility between Russia and Ukraine shortly after the start of their conflict in February last year.

"However, latest reports shed light on the fact that Kyiv’s Western backers blocked the negotiations between the two neighbours.

"The shocking statement has been made by former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, who mediated those contacts."

Are we still sleepwalking into WWIII or are we being pushed toward Armageddon with eyes wide open?

She's not a big fan of representative democracy:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natalie_Jaresko

"Nine months after the 2014 Ukrainian revolution, Jaresko was approached by headhunters for the new Ukrainian government, and within days offered the post of minister of finance.[24]..."

"On 24 March 2016, shortly before she left office, she argued that the economy had to be depoliticized and Ukraine needed a technocratic government,[27] and that she was willing to lead such a technocratic government.[28]

"Ukraine Today and the Financial Times reported speculation that Jaresko could become Ukraine's new prime minister, which was also suggested by former United States Ambassador to Ukraine Steven Pifer and President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko.[29][30][31]

"The Ukrainian Weekly reported that Jaresko had started forming a provisional technocratic Cabinet of Ministers the previous month."

Peace was also possible in the moment before Putin ordered the invasion. He could have decided....nah, not worth it....

And is Putin in favor of democracy? Are you nuts? She was an economist, not a politician.

From your link:

Bennett, however, clarified, “I claim there was a good chance of reaching a ceasefire. But I’m not claiming it was the right thing.”

Best Laid Plans of Hegemonic Regime Change Gone Awry (Again)?

https://mronline.org/2023/02/07/the-u-s-continues-escalating-in-ukraine/

"Now even the Rand Corporation, which is funded by the military industrial complex and fossil fuel companies, and pushed for war with Russia in 2019 , is waving red flags about the overreach.

"In an article entitled Avoiding a Long War , Rand concludes, 'In short, the consequences of a long war—ranging from persistent elevated escalation risks to economic damage—far outweigh the possible benefits.'

"Rand is no peacemaker, believing that challenging China should be the focus and not the Ukraine stalemate.

"Warnings from a friendly party show that the best laid plans for hegemonic regime change have gone wrong once again."

Yes. Russia grossly overestimated it's military state.. and grossly underestimated Ukrainian resolve hence it's hegemonic aims are forestalled

So let Putin know....withdraw now.

I feel a bit lightheaded. Maybe you should drive.
Still rooting Fer Putin, eh?
Nope, just keeping it real. The fact is that much of what has been reported on the war thus far is Zalenskyy created propaganda. Both sides are being decimated, and they are currently engaged in a bloody stalemate - which, let's face it, is exactly what you neocons wanted.

An obvious way to break the stalemate (that is, to hasten the victory already in Ukraine’s reach) would be to send massive material (fighter-bombers, fighters, more tanks and missiles) to Ukraine.

You should have mentioned that to NATO two years ago:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prelude_to_the_2022_Russian_invasion_of_Ukraine

"Beginning from 16 March (2021), NATO began a series of military exercises known as Defender Europe 2021.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prelude_to_the_2022_Russian_invasion_of_Ukraine#cite_note-defEu21-134

"The military exercise, one of the largest NATO-led military exercises in Europe for decades, included near-simultaneous operations across over 30 training areas in 12 countries, involving 28,000 troops from 27 nations.[114][115]

"Russia criticized NATO for holding Defender Europe 2021,,[116] and deployed troops to its western borders for military exercises in response to NATO's military activities.

"The deployment led to Russia having a sizable troop buildup along the Russo-Ukrainian border by mid-April."

And naturally, when those exercises ended and didn't result in any sort of incursion whatsoever, Putin had every right to stage his own military exercise, and then storm into a sovereign Nation attempting to take over its capital, while concurrently slaughtering its peoples raping its women and children, and then garnering the support of ass wipes the world over who pretend that he was somehow justified. Hooray for this finding. I'm sure you nailed it

Update from Ukraine:

Notorious Russian army captain and mercenary Igor Mangushev has died in hospital, days after he was shot in the head at close range in occupied Ukraine, his friends have said.

Mangushev's wife Tatyana described his killing as an execution.

He commanded an anti-drone unit in occupied Luhansk, but had also been one of the founders of a mercenary group fighting Ukrainian forces in 2014.

He took to a stage last summer holding a man's skull.

In a video posted on social media in August, Mangushev was filmed saying the skull belonged to a Ukrainian fighter killed defending the Azovstal steel works in the southern port of Mariupol.

An extreme nationalist, Mangushev said Russia was not at war with people, but with an idea of Ukraine as an "anti-Russian state", and it did not matter how many Ukrainians died.
