USA today fact checks lack of replenishment of n95 masks in national stockpile

Boca

Governor
Anyway, you digress. The GOP prevented replenishment of the stockpile because they pretended to be concerned with fiscal discipline.

You people are laughable. Clowns.
You don't seem to understand how budgets are set.

Step 1 The President submits a proposed budget for the coming fiscal year
Step 2 The House of Representatives and the Senate go back and forth until reaching agreement and it's sent to the President for signing.

Everyone of Trump’s budget proposals have called for cuts to CDC funding, but Congress has intervened each time by passing spending bills with year-over-year increases for the CDC that Trump then signed into law.

So the narrative that Trump cut money is just another lie.

Seems that goes back several years..

The bottom line, per your source:

Our rating: True
We rate this claim TRUE because it is supported by our research. There is no indication that the Obama administration took significant steps to replenish the supply of N95 masks in the Strategic National Stockpile after it was depleted from repeated crises. Calls for action came from experts at the time concerned for the country’s ability to respond to future serious pandemics. Such recommendations were, for whatever reason, not heeded.

People may argue over who's fault that is, exonerating those they wish to while condemning their villain-of-choice, but all of that is wasted effort. The takeaway here should be this is what happened, what can we learn from it, and what can be done moving forward.

Should be and will be, of course, being two entirely different things.

But efforts to bulk up the stockpile fell apart in tense standoffs between the Obama White House and congressional Republicans, according to administration and congressional officials involved in the negotiations. Had Congress kept funding at the 2010 level through the end of the Obama administration, the stockpile would have benefited from $321 million more than it ended up getting, according to budget documents reviewed by ProPublica. During the Trump administration, Congress started giving the stockpile more than the White House requested.

Republicans took over the House of Representatives in the 2010 midterms on the Tea Party wave of opposition to the landmark 2010 health care reform law, the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare. The new House majority was intent on curbing government spending, especially at HHS, which administered Obamacare.

...

After using up the swine flu emergency funds, the Obama administration tried to replenish the stockpile in 2011 by asking Congress to provide $655 million, up from the previous year’s budget of less than $600 million. Responding to swine flu, whic
“We recognized the need for replenishment of the stockpile and budgeted about a 10% increase,” said Dr. Nicole Lurie, who served as the assistant secretary for preparedness and response at the Department of Health and Human Services during the Obama administration. “That was rejected by the Republican House.”
Trump had 3 years to replenish the medical stockpile, but didn't start till mid-March of this year.

Trump ignored replenishing the stockpile......until mid-March. That's your Trump.
Trump goes off on reporter who asks about new report that Feds didn't start ordering masks until mid-March.

According to the USA Today, the previous administration avoided it for eight years.

The far more important issue, however, is what we should do about it now.

That, of course, is the part that likely doesn't interest you.

The one thing I agree with is that some of Trump’s efforts to sabotage our public health efforts failed. Just some though.

This canard from Trump and his cultists is lame, as always. The bottom line is that the GOP’s feigned “fiscal discipline” concerns during the Obama era was largely responsible, Trump failed to restock things for three years and, even if there was a restocking, the supplies would have been long exhausted in any event given the catastrophe caused by Trump’s lying and bumbling.

so, because of a 55million dollar shortfall... the prior administration could not spend at least the 600 million that was allotted..to replenish the stockpile?

Now that you know it's a true statement, will you dig in and insist it's a lie anyway?

Why are you worrying about Obama when it's Trump who, after 3 years in office, did/didn't do this?

You make excuses for one, blame the other.

To the surprise of absolutely no one.

As I recall, Obama enjoyed a Democrat-controlled Congress for the first two years of his Presidency.....Do you still insist he shares zero responsibility for depleting, and not replenishing, the N95 mask stockpile?

Well of course you do....You'll not allow facts to get in your way.

Cutting health care products is the fault of Congress. We needed more money for the MIC.
Where are the brazillion medical supplies the Military MUST have. I don't see them breaking them out. The Asst. Director of HHS said some got a large supply of masks that were dry rotted. Your gov. helping. FEMA is a Looong way from ever being prepared for anything.
Everyone had better take a lesson. When the SHTF the Gov. is not going to be there for you for a long time. Plan accordingly.
