Who has that kind of money to lend ?

And better yet, why would they lend it out for a 'POSSIBLE" Payback ?

The guvment loves to throw money at problems they create, and usually that money is totally mishandled and stolen..........err..........."misappropriated"

Is there anyone who doesn't think they politicians just got rich, using their fake companies, overseas tax shelters and family members - there is a reason they all retire millionaires on a 150 k salary......................pork barrel indeed. And where is the TEAPARTY in all this, oh yeah they are all socialists now !

Naturally, you include Democrats in your condemnation, right?

(rolls eyes)

So, the FED is going to print more money to help us recover from this crisis? I am no economist, but doesn't printing more money cause more inflation? Isn't this how Zimbabwe ended up with money that was totally worthless?
Are we following in Zimbabwe's footsteps?

The only way this can pass is if the democrat led house passes it, the republican led senate passes it, and the president signs it into law.

But I assume the money is just "printed" and not actually collected or bonds sold to raise money. But maybe it is a combination of bonds sold and money "printed".

Good question.

It's all bonds. This is all going to have to paid back.

BTW, in case anyone missed it...This is not a gift, it's a loan against next years refund. If you get $1,200 now under the stimulus, and get a $1,400 refund next tax year, guess what...you only get $200.

I don't think this is correct.

@SW48

I misread it...

The payments are essentially an advance on a credit against 2020 taxes. People who receive advance payments based on their 2018 or 2019 income but qualify for a bigger credit amount based on their income this year will receive the remainder of the credit amount to which they are entitled when they file their 2020 tax returns next year.

apologies.

you may be right. I've seen articles stating this is the case, and articles stating it is not the case.

GOOGLING again......
I haven't read any articles saying USA workers would have to pay back the stimulus checks.

You might be thinking of businesses that don't use the money for payroll would have to pay it back.

More specifically...

The way the law is written, the checks that will be sent now are actually just advanced payments of a new refundable tax credit for the 2020 tax year. So, if you don't get a stimulus payment in 2020, you can claim it next year as a refund or reduction of the tax you owe if you file a 2020 tax return by April 15, 2021.

So,
Likewise, if your income goes up, and your credit goes up compared to the stimulus check amount, you'll get additional money next year. However, if it goes down, and you get a lower crediit than the amount of your stiumulus check, you will NOT be required to repay the difference.

Link? As I still don't believe it.

I think you got that backwards If your income goes up, then only way your stimulus money can go is down. Provided it moves above 75,000 per individual, 150,000, for married couple threshold.
