White Male Grievance, it's a rightwing thang

It's been described simply on AM talk radio as white males feeling oppressed by minorities and women. Here's a more sophisticated explanation.

Ethno-nationalist Trump supporters want to return to a past when white men saw themselves as the core of America and minorities and women “knew their place.” Because doing so requires the upending of the social order, many are prepared to pursue extreme measures, including racial violence and insurrection. What makes their actions all the more dangerous is a self-righteous belief — reinforced by the former president, the Republican Party, and right-wing conspiracy peddlers — that they are on the correct side of history as the true defenders of democracy, even as their actions undermine its core institutions and threaten its stability.

They fear a loss of attention. A loss of validation. These are people who have always had racial privilege but have never had much else. Many feel passed over, ignored. Trump listened to them and spoke their language when few other politicians did. He felt their pain and was diabolical enough to encourage their tendency to racialize that pain. They fear becoming faceless again if a Democrat, or even a conventional Republican, were to take office.

This opinion is precisely wrong because it’s being aimed at the wrong generation. It’s directed at a generation of people who have never met with any detectable racial privilege in their favor but are only seeing it being used against them as a bludgeon while being told to happily support it for others they don’t feel earned it.
That’s why it isn’t working to make the medicine go down easier. Sensible people need not be shamed for their resistance.

White privilege has been around for generations, centuries.

What we have here are high school grad white males feeling threatened because women and minorities are getting college educations, making good bucks.....while they're stuck in a rut. Since they're too lazy to advance themselves, they bitch about those who are passing them in achievement and get more angry.

As one sociologist put it: they want to return to a past when white men saw themselves as the core of America and minorities and women “knew their place.”

Which of course does nothing to explain the left’s physical and systemic attacks and marginalization of Asians. They are left out in the areas of quota and qualifications although they’re not at all white. Go figure.

"White privilege" like the BIG WHITE GHETTO:

Well, I'm white and not oppressed nor have I ever felt oppressed by minorities or women, sounds like the sociologist needs visit a Shrink.

Appears minority women need Shrinks also or patiences while ordering food at Taco Bell and Burger King!

Off-duty correctional officers run over people outside Taco Bell: Police (msn.com)

Hurry up with this girls burger!

Tennessee Woman Shoots at Burger King Employees After Filling Her Order Took Too Long (msn.com)

Why would any white males be oppressed of those three?

White dem/lib males don't have grievances against minorities or women.

Whereas white rightwing males want to return to a past when white men saw themselves as the core of America and minorities and women “knew their place.”

It takes an incredible feeling of entitlement to racial privilege to pretend it doesn't exist.

"Quota"? You are aware that there haven't been quotas for hiring, educational admission, or the awarding of government contracts since the 1980s?

The physical attacks are of course coming from the right. A large majority of Asians, like a large majority of whites, support affirmative action.

Not true. Not any of it.

Companies today are still announcing quotas.
A dozen or more have announced them recently.
Delta, United, Wells Fargo, Estée Lauder, JP Morgan, and more.

And no, these attacks on Asians are happening in blue cities and towns, and they’re not at all being perpetrated by those on the right. It’s Baltimore, New York City, San Francisco, etc

WASHINGTON - Hate-fueled attacks on Asian Americans spiked across major U.S. cities last year — in some cases by triple-digit percentages — even as overall hate crimes declined, newly analyzed police department statistics show.

Moreover, the alarming trend has continued into this year, experts say.

There were 122 incidents of anti-Asian American hate crimes in 16 of the country’s most populous cities in 2020, an increase of almost 150% over the previous year

Court-ordered, to redress specific, confirmed, recent race discrimination and establish a minimum baseline level of equal opportunity.

That’s where there are large Asian-American communities in this country. The malcontents who don’t like the way things are going in those blue cities lash out at the Asian-Americans (who vote Democratic by a more than 2 to 1 margin, probably especially in those blue cities) as scapegoats.

So you lied when you said no quotas since the 1980s. What’s left is merely the degree to which you lied. I think it’s greater than what you’ve admitted.

Just one.

That is why this is an OPINION piece. Opinions can be written or spoken by one without anyone else being allowed to question why or what the reasoning behind it may be. It just gets read or heard and believed by others who want it to be so and seek no evidence to prove the feeling or belief.

Opinions are the faith based religion of the....well..."intellectually challenged" if you will.

You gotta belive.

I think it may have some basis in fact, I would only disagree in that I think it's along the lines of some minute fraction of individuals. The bigger problem is that it's being bandied about as though it's reflective of the whole which is not

"since 1980s" is a big fat LIE

Well, make your case that rightwing white males don't have grievances against minorities and women.
