Who Is Listening?

Liberal journalists banding together to get out all of liberalism’s messages is not much of a threat to the people who are fighting against government oppression:

WASHINGTON, D.C. – A prominent CNN commentator, the top two political reporters for The Huffington Post, a Reuters reporter, the editor of The Nation magazine, a producer for Al Jazeera America television, a U.S. News & World Report columnist, and approximately two dozen Huffington Post contributors are among the more than 1,000 members of Gamechanger Salon.

Few Americans listen to them as the anemic ratings for overtly liberal news programs prove. At the rate they are losing audiences, 1,000 liberal journalists will soon outnumber the people who listen to them. They’ll end up talking to each other.

ABC, NBC, CBS - The original "Big Three" ruled the airwaves for decades - they monopolized the News and stifled free speech more than anyone will ever know - CNN, MSNBC relative newcomers , are simply carrying on with the Liberal Narrative.

Now you have Five Left Wing networks and One Conservative - who kicks asss so far as ratings go ?

The networks kick ass.

Yes...Fox is the leading CABLE news network.

The "huge" numbers Fox gets aren't really huge at all. In the 25-54 demo, for example, look at the 9 o'clock hour.

http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/2014/09/17/cable-news-ratings-for-tuesday-september-16-2014/303806/

Kelly has 388,000...CNN and Maddow have 432,000. A repeat of Shark Tank delivers 351,000.

By comparison, Scott Pelley draws 6.5 million viewers a night...and added MORE viewers than Kelly has in that demo. Now...I realize the 6 O clock news is not the 9 o'clock entertainment hour, but this concept that Fox is crushing the networks is just stupid.

The CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY is up +8% in adults 25-54 (1.3/06 from 1.2/05) – the demographic most important to those who advertise in news – for the week ending Sept. 5, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings.

The CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY is also up +7% in viewers (6.50m from 6.07m), adding +430,000 viewers compared to the same week last year.

Season-to-date, the CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY is up +5% in viewers (6.77m from 6.44m) compared to last year...

Craig -poor little fella, you pathetic Mental Midget - aren't you tired of getting stomped on ?

Fox News was unshakable as the No. 1 cable news channel last month, averaging 1.8 million viewers in prime time. Fox News' prime-time ratings jumped 15% compared with August 2013.

CNN, meanwhile, surged to become the No. 2 cable news channel in prime time last month, surpassing MSNBC, which came in third. CNN took viewers from MSNBC and the other liberal indoctrination outlets you call networks - they took nothing from FOX .

Craig, you're truly a funny little cockroach - I think I'll keep you around for a while - you're very entertaining - :)

Yes...You may have seen the word cable written in capital letters...an acknowledgement on my part that Fox is a CABLE news leader, yet is a tiny force against the networks.

Hell...I even linked articles to the numbers. Fox draws 1.8 million among all viewers...and CBS alone draws 6,5 million. I think that even a pompous blowhard such as yourself knows that 6.5 million...is larger than 1.8 million. Add in NBC and ABC, the networks...and the comparison gets even more ridiculous.

Now...add in the 7.3 million ABC gets...to the 6.5 million CBS gets...and now we see 13.8 million (networks) v Fox's (CABLE) 1.8 million.

ABC’s “World News Tonight with David Muir” premiered as the No. 1 evening newscast in Adults 25-54 (2.040 million) during the week of September 1, 2014, based on Live +Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. In fact, ABChas won in the key adult news demo for the 5th consecutive week to deliver its winning longest streak in nearly 7 years – since w/o 10/1/07 thru w/o 10/29/07.In addition, ABC has taken the top spot in Adults 25-54 for the 9th time in the last 10 weeks and in 15 of the last 22. “World News Tonight” outperformed NBC “Nightly News” (1.967 million) by 73,000 news demo viewers.

“World News Tonight” built on the prior week’s performance (7.383 million and 1.942 million, respectively, for w/o 8/25/14) for the 2nd week running in both Total Viewers (+12%) and Adults 25-54 (+5%) to deliver its largest overall audience since March and best news demo performance since May – since w/o 3/24/14 and w/o 5/12/14, respectively.

You and your abuse seem to have disappeared. Go figure. And speaking of figures...I wanted to bring the third major network into the discussion.

The most current figures are one week old...so...feel free to attack such ancient information...

NBC News: 8, 554,000
CBS News: 6, 276,000
ABC News: 8,326,000

Those add up to 23,600,000. That's Twenty Three Million.

You laud Fox...a CABLE station with 1.8 million. My comment...The networks kick ass. Everyone can see your response...and how completely in error you are. Glad to be entertaining...

Quite frankly Cable News is the future - which Fox dominates

Very Entertaining Semantics

You are quoting statistics from arenas in which FOX does not compete . Comparing Apples to Oranges ? In an Apple Orchard do the Oranges win the election .

To Craig: Over the years, I probably posted a million words about the media. Fear not. I will only touch on a few items for your consideration.

The number of viewers is most important to a network’s bottom line. Obviously, network bean-counters know that the reason for watching a specific network is more important than the stories; hence, reportage is tailored for the audience.

In addition to biased reporting, networks always made movie stars of out of their anchors. Before subscription television came along the 3 network anchors were as famous as any actor. Had they been on the same network they would have been called murderers’ row. The late Socialist icon, Walter Cronkite (1916 - 2009), was the cleanup hitter. He was billed —— BY THE MEDIA —— as the most trusted man in America.

In order to fill up all of that air time 24-7 news created, networks added leggy bimbos to attract a male audience.

Once the reason for watching the news enters the discussion the media must be separated into three entities. Each one a book in itself:

1. Print. (Newspapers & Magazines).

Note that those few newspapers and magazines still publishing hard copies also slant their reporting for a specific readership.

2. Electronic. (Television & Radio). Basically, they do not enjoy First Amendment protection as does print.

3. The Internet. (A combination of electronic and print).

The Internet is under attack by print and electronic. Note that the Founding Fathers separated freedom of speech and freedom of the press:

First Amendment

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

I believe that the Internet has First Amendment protection under FREEDOM OF SPEECH although the SCOTUS has not addressed the issue as far as I know.

Now, let’s go to the Fairness Doctrine. Ronald Reagan eliminated it in 1987. No poll ever incorporates the loss of the Fairness Doctrine. Keep that in mind when you look at the following graphs.

Note the first year listed in the graphs:

September 17, 2014
Trust in Mass Media Returns to All-Time Low
Six-percentage-point drops in trust among Democrats and Republicans
by Justin McCarthy

http://www.gallup.com/poll/176042/trust-mass-media-returns-time-low.aspx?version=print

My point: Liberals unanimously trusted the media when the Fairness Doctrine was enforced. Until a few years ago liberals were still denying that the media had a liberal bias.

Finally, no discussion of today’s media is complete without analyzing the Internet’s influence, and the elimination of the Fairness Doctrine.

My soul point in the thread is that the networks "kick ass" in ratings, the question to which my initial post responded.

Not trust, nor any considerations of bias (which are always approached with bias), but the numbers alone. If I am being presented with a FoxNews kicks ass post, all I can do is operate on the same table. The network news pull in 23 million viewers, FoxNews pulls in 1.8 million.

When this is pointed out, I'm challenged because I compared the networks with Cable...which was the very essence of the top post. 5 liberal networks...to one conservative. The bar was set. I cleared it.

To Craig. Not really. Every household has a television. You failed to adjust for the number of households that pay for subscription TV in relation to “free TV.”

NOTE: The government eliminated analogue TV transmissions in order to create hundreds of advertising platforms on digital TV (subscription TV.) Would you lay that fact on liberals or on conservatives?

The ratings are the ratings, they need no adjustment.

Again...I am not here to discuss anything other than the question asked. Who kicks ass? The answer is...the networks.

Cable (and satellite etc) penetration is high, 90% of households get FoxNews....Most do not watch it.

July 2014

  • 33.0% of television households subscribe to ADS
  • 57.2% of television homes subscribes to wired cable delivery. Nielsen includes telco (FiOS and U-Verse) homes in its reported wired cable penetration figures. These homes are not available via local cable interconnects.

Craig - The 1.8 Million from FOX is only "Prime Time"

The numbers you quoted from elsewhere as well as markets in which FOX does not compete - encompass the whole sha-bang for the FOX competitors.

I am slightly short on time to fully research this presently - but I'll return later to bitch-smack you a wee bit more .
