Why is it legal to have guns, but not "body armor" . . . ?

Don't ask for a state by state, or city by city legal analysis. But there ARE locations where private citizens CANNOT legally purchase or own body armor. And I'm not just talking about ex-felons - persons prohibited.

Presumably, the theory here is that having body armor makes it easier to rob a bank? Like what happened in California 20 years ago?

Do we need a constitutional right to wear bulletproof vests, in an era where police are defunded and barely respond to 911 calls?

We don't even have the right to attend church if there's an unexpected virus on the loose. (full disclosure - I'm secular. I worship no gods, and fear no demons. And I love that line from Captain America . . . "there is only one god, and he doesn't dress like that" - after encountering Thor . . .)
