Why some people of color say they won't wear homemade masks

On social media and in interviews with CNN, a number of people of color — activists, academics and ordinary Americans — expressed fears that homemade masks could exacerbate racial profiling and place blacks and Latinos in danger.

"I don't feel safe wearing a handkerchief or something else that isn't CLEARLY a protective mask covering my face to the store because I am a Black man living in this world," tweeted Aaron Thomas, an educator in Columbus, Ohio. "I want to stay alive but I also want to stay alive."

Seems simple enough to me.

Poor people of color...……...so much to fear in life, how DO they manage to go on?

If they choose to let their fear of all people of no color, for whatever reasons be it something that happened to them personally or merely something they have seen or heard about, dictate their lives so be it but that phobia simply isn't the fault of all people of no color.

Look, they may have to do like people of no color are doing, pick what they fear most. Getting the virus, getting gunned down in the street, starving to death rather than risk either, whatever.....

Ever considered how some people of no color may fear the idea of having to go out in public and be surrounded by people of color wearing masks, be that fear based upon something that happened to them personally or merely something they have seen or heard about, is THAT phobia the fault of all people of color or does it belong to the individual himself?

But I get it, people of color DO often murder other people of color for wearing the wrong color bandana, you can never be too carful I suppose.

So go out or stay home and starve, you at least still have THAT right left for now...….

No, I think it's funny that fake commies like you let brown people (who you obviously despise) starve and die in shitholes you praise but you're too afraid to live in.
Not the topic. Also international poverty (which is the basis for your social system) is something I am actively addressing; one reason I support socialism is because poverty rates in socialist countries are so much lower than in comparable capitalist countries (no one is starving in Cuba).

It is not “phobia” for people to show a rational fear of being murdered when racist murder occurs far too often.

Everyone fears something.

Your poor little people of color are no different than all the dreaded people of no color in that respect. Everyone's fears are based upon something. Real, imagined, lived through or heard about, something. Your people of color do not need to be coddled. Most are just like most people of no color.......... Adult enough to know and accept ours is not a perfect society but IF we truly do want all people to be equals and be viewed as such by EVERYONE we can't go around championing treating certain groups differently than others.

Not for any reason.

It defeats the purpose, the very definition of us "all" being "equals" by continuing to view some as helpless and victims and others as entitled and predators.

Either of which could apply sometimes and in some cases but neither of which can be applied all of the time and in all cases. Everyone of us has options available and choices to make, I suggest all people of color as well as people of no color cowboy the fuk up and do whatever they feel they need to do.

Period.

Treating everyone as equals would mean people not being shot for wearing a protective mask regardless of the color of their skin. The fact is, we aren’t there yet.

No shit?

"we aren't there yet"?

Ok, so how many people are "being shot for wearing a protective mask regardless of the color of their skin"?

Just roughly, no need to try to be exact, I know the number is ever climbing...………..

Disingenuous. We know that Black people have been regularly shot for doing all sorts of innocent things for years. The reasonable anticipation that this pattern will not go away on its own has led many to forgo wearing the masks and thereby avoid getting shot.

Yeah, left wing Antifa kind of blew it for people.
Through October of 2019, 2,247 people were shot, and 424 were murdered in Chicago, the majority of whom were black men.
What would you estimate the number to be of those who folks were shot and killed by supporters of President Trump?
