This Newsweek story is from March 21 of this year.....

Catholic Churches Are Being Desecrated Across France—and Officials Don’t Know Why

France has seen a spate of attacks against Catholic churches since the start of the year, vandalism that has included arson and desecration.

Vandals have smashed statues, knocked down tabernacles, scattered or destroyed the Eucharist and torn down crosses, sparking fears of a rise in anti-Catholic sentiment in the country.

Last Sunday, the historic Church of St. Sulpice in Paris was set on fire just after midday mass on Sunday, Le Parisien reported, although no one was injured. Police are still investigating the attack, which firefighters have confidently attributed to arson.

Built in the 17th century, St. Sulpice houses three works by the Romantic painter Eugene de la Croix, and was used in the movie adaptation of The Da Vinci Code, by Dan Brown.

Last month, at the St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Houilles, in north-central France, a statue of the Virgin Mary was found smashed, and the altar cross had been thrown on the ground, according to La Croix International, a Catholic publication.

Also in February, at Saint-Alain Cathedral in Lavaur, in south-central France, an altar cloth was burned and crosses and statues of saints were smashed. The attack prompted Lavaur Mayor Bernard Canyon to say in a statement: “God will forgive. Not me.”

And in the southern city of Nimes, near the Spanish border, vandals looted the altar of the church of Notre-Dame des Enfants (Our Lady of the Children) and smeared a cross with human excrement.

I'm not making any assumptions with regard to Notre Dame: I'm content to wait for the results of the investigation.....Hopefully, this was just a dreadful accident.

File all this under "food for thought".

I tend to agree; 99% certain it was just an accident. But you know that old saying; "Trust in Allah, but keep the camels tied up."

It will likely be some time before we know anything....

The Paris prosecutor's office said it had launched an inquiry into the devastating blaze, with investigators working on the assumption for now that the fire was accidental.

"We are favouring the theory of an accident," prosecutor Remy Heitz told reporters, adding that fifty people were working on a "long" and "complex" investigation.

The fire began at around 6.50pm local time (16:50 GMT), spreading from the attic and rapidly devouring the roof's wooden frame, which is more than 100 metres in length and nicknamed "the forest".

Investigators are focusing on whether the fire spread from the site of ongoing reconstruction work on the roof of the cathedral, which was covered in scaffolding, a source close to the investigation said.

I hope it's an accident, if it turns out to be something else this may be a bridge to far for the people who are doing such things, it could get very very ugly.

It's a nice building with a lot of history, but it's still a building. If the Bataclan and Charlie Hebdo didn't push shit over the edge, I don't think a building burning down will do it.

But what do I know? Maybe the French will lose their shit over it.

In addition to the spiritual aspect, there is over 800 years of history and art.....And there is also the fact that it has been a major tourist attraction that has brought revenue to the city.

This is devastating to a lot of people, for a variety of reasons.

Those are very good points. If it does turn out to be a jihadist etc. (although they usually like to go up with the stuff they destroy) I am not sure what it would take to get France to say enough is enough....

    Certainly not Macron...

I hope it's an accident. That said, I heard on the radio yesterday that arson had already been ruled out. If so, that seems odd to me.

Just looking at the article again..

They know why, but won't say it publicly. They have no problem reporting that swastika's were found on a Synagogue or a Church soooooo…….

I think we all hope it's an accident.....What a disaster it would be if it turned out otherwise.

Perhaps connecting the dots is too painful....

According to The Tablet, a record 47 documented attacks on churches and religious sites were reported in February alone.

"I think there is a rising hostility in France against the church and its symbols," stated Ellen Fantini, executive director of Observatory of Intolerance and Discrimination Against Christians in Europe. "It seems to be more against Christianity and the symbols of Christianity."

"These attacks are on symbols that are really sacred to parishioners, to Catholics." she added. "Desecration of consecrated hosts is a very personal attack on Catholicism and Christianity, more than spray-painting a slogan on the outside wall of a church."

The German media reports the growing anti-Christian sentiment is believed to be a result of increased Muslim migration. In 2016, after the arrival of close to a million Muslims in Germany, a local newspaper reported "not a day goes by" that attacks on religious statues did not happen in the town of Dülmen.

And in France studies show the attacks on churches have increased as the number of Muslim migrants has increased. A January 2017 study stated, "Islamist extremist attacks on Christians" in France rose by 38 percent, going from 273 attacks in 2015 to 376 in 2016; the majority occurred during Christmas season and "many of the attacks took place in churches and other places of worship."

In 2016, CBN News reported on three "radicalized" women who were plotting to bomb Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. Police found a car loaded with at least six gas canisters near the church. One of the females was found guilty of encouraging other potential jihadists to perform attacks in Syria and France as well.

Sadly the right wing, including CBN, have their own agenda and don't mind twisting the facts. Here is an example of Breitbart turning the truth on it's head.

    https://www.thelocal.de/20170105/ge...ng-breitbart-reports-of-violence-on-new-years

If you believed the right wingers....there was an attack by a mob of 1,000 Muslims on Germany's oldest church.

Really? I think it pretty clearly pointed out the chicken little problem you on the right have. You've destroyed your credibility. Every time some right winger resorts to the use of easily demolished arguments and questionable information you become less believable.
More often than not when I ask one of you guys for evidence to back up an accusation, I get insults back or "everybody knows" or "I already proved it"....

I just thought I'd remind you of Pizzagate or the accusation that Newtown was a false flag so that you'd understand why it is easy to ignore you.

Every day now I am hearing growing murmurs of unease coming from even the most ardent defenders of mass immigration. Fear has taken over as they realise that their neighbourhood is next as the encroachment gets closer and closer to their peaceful, often cosmopolitan, part of town.
I heard yesterday that Kilburn is now Arab, that the Irish have left and loud men from Middle East who are constantly shouting, in Arabic, have moved in. I used to live there, in Kilburn, it was completely Irish but even they can't cope with this mass influx of Islam - they have gone.

You have no idea - none. African gangs with huge knives fighting over territories which were London - Bangladeshi youths throwing acid in peoples faces just to steal a bloody hand bag or a phone - where Pakistanis have taken over they rule the streets completely, they rule with fear - Somalians - African boy soldiers - getting in on the rape of our children.

Are all immigrants violent, cruel, murderous? No but those who are rule - they rule their own communities and many of ours. Our cities are gone - dead, soulless - their hearts ripped out.

The Gilet Jaune will find out - if it is, as one fears, Macron et all behind this - it will be the whole of France which is on fire.
