Turley drops giant bomb in midst of Judiciary hearing

FakeName

Governor
Turley blew that bullshit up too.

Citing the impeachment of Richard Nixon where the Supreme court ruled Nixon had to give up documents that he refused to release 'and you bastards are assuming that you can simply declare it's a crime that Trump didn't immediately, and are therefore abusing your power in a system of co-equal branches of government'.

Obviously I'm paraphrasing so that thick skulls might get it. And probably won't anyway.
look up the word precedent.

Apply the Nixon decision to this situation.

There is your answer.

The ghost of Judge Porteous - you know the Judge he represented and and his argument then has 180 flipped now. Rep. Swalwell did a good job of exposing his backtracking

His “opinion” is ridiculous. Even if one thinks it’s fine for a president to extort a vulnerable nation into doing his political bidding to affect our elections, there’s just no getting around Trump’s complete obstruction of justice in the impeachment inquiries. And refusing to complete with all subpoenas for documents and testimony, and ordering others to do the same, is an impeachable offense. Even the two Fox Noise legal analysts agreed with this...

Indeed, before Trump completely corrupted this nation with his utter lawlessness, no one would disagree with this.
Huh?

All he said was..in prior cases...take Clinton impeachment.. there was agreement.

So lessee...

We have a president who orders his people to defy subpoenas and not testify.

We have Trump’s “own Roy Cohn” as AG, a stooge who would never prosecute such things.

So what are we left with? Have the House Sargent at Arms raid the White House and shoot it out with Secret Service to arrest people and drag them off?

And, of course, there’s not even such theoretical recourse to get the documents Trump refuses to produce despite the subpoenas.

That’s the “new normal” in the lawless America Trump has brought us?
I wouldn't be surprised. But it will be the crazed doing so

boom. reality strikes. expediency and theater is just that.

strict proof is required.

at 1:00. also, allow it to play into the next video. he talks of lowering impeachment standards to fit a paucity of evidence. and... he voted against trump.

ouch.

Turley is a centrist and straight shooter. And the fact that centrists are saying this shows us why Dems want to block Republican subpoenas. Exculpatory evidence and testimonies need not apply. Sounds like a legitimate inquiry advertised as just searching for the "truth".

Who are the “crazed” who made Trump order his people to defy impeachment inquiry subpoenas requiring testimony and documents?
Democrats when they decided to strip due process, block Republican subpoenas, limit the participation of Trump attorneys, and restrict GOP questioning. Not to mention efforts to screen witnesses in the basement first.

You should listen to Turley. He's a centrist. You are living a lie.

President
He's a republican. LOL
I'm waiting for fair and balanced people here to post the statements of the other scholars....all as qualified to state their opinion as Turley. I'm watching the hearing. Pretty boring other than watching the Republicans trying to stall and still whining thatg it isn't "fair".
Republicans are like 1/3 of the country. If they are alarmed at the efforts spearheaded by the CIA and the Democrats to replace the elected president with someone of their choice on flimsy grounds, maybe they have a point.

+1

Turdley narrowed the obstruction to documents and didn't mention Red Don wrote a memo telling staff et al not to cooperate

Trump posting a memo telling staff not to cooperate with congress is more than just "documents".

TurdLay put that out for MAGA Suckers to lick it all up

Has Trump lifted the demand for staff not to cooperate with congress?

thx in advance

President
Huh, wonder why the entire Trump administration didn't participate. surely they could f'ed up the flow even more. Hillary appeared before a hostile congress numerous times and showed them what's what. Trump can't do what Hillary did because he isn't as talented.
Clinton’s talent ... looking good to liberals. Trump’s ... winning presidential elections.

President
he has changed his tune since he believed lying about consensual sex with another adult was the end of civilization as we know it, and clinton had to go for the good of the country!! and you fell for this bullshit!!

WASHINGTON—Here is Jonathan Turley, to the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday.

That is why this is wrong. It's not wrong because President Trump is right. His call was anything but perfect. It's not wrong because the House has no legitimate reason to investigate Ukrainian controversy. Point's not wrong because we're in an election year. There is no good time for an impeachment. No, it's wrong because this is not how you impeach an American president. This case is not a case of the unknowable. It's a case of the peripheral. We have a record of conflicts, defenses that have not been fully considered, unsubpoenaed witness with material evidence. To impeach a president on this record would expose every future president to the same time of inchoate impeachment.

Here is Jonathan Turley, in 1998.

In a government of laws, existence of the government will be imperiled if it fails to observe the law scrupulously. Our Government is the potent, the omnipresent teacher. For good or for ill, it teaches the whole people by its example. Crime is contagious. If the Government becomes a lawbreaker; it breeds contempt for law; it invites every man to become a law unto himself; it invites anarchy. The allegations against President Clinton go to the very heart of the legitimacy of his office and the integrity of the political system. As an individual, a president may seek spiritual redemption in the company of friends and family. Constitutional redemption, however, is found only in the company of representatives of all three branches in the well of the Senate. It is there that legitimacy, once recklessly lost, can be regained by a president.

If there ever was need for more evidence that the pursuit of Bill Clinton was destructive to good government, it is right there in Jonathan Turley, who spent Wednesday rattling around on a hook on which he hung himself 20 years ago.

Impeach a president* for shaking down an ally for personal political advantage?

Everybody calm down before something gets broken.

Impeach a president for lying about an affair?

If not, anarchy!

Nothing is ever really over.

The 2019 testimony is about due process, not about the seriousness of the allegations.

Constitutional Sheepdog

][][][%er!!!!!!!
He claims he didn't vote for Trump, but who knows? I wonder if his wife was peeking to see how he voted like Trump did Melania in 2016? LOL Lots of people who claim they didn't vote for Trump are his biggest defenders. I think they're embarrassed that they actual voted for the moron.
Are you saying he lied before Congress? do you have proof?

Democrats won't understand it and some on certain forums will never admit to even hearing it.
because there was none or you would prove it, not just talk about it like people who claim they saw a UFO once.

quit tippy toeing around and state what abuse of power you are fantasizing about....

no, it is about both. lying about consensual sex could be used, and was used, by republicans in the House to impeach a president along purely political lines. and most Americans believed lying about consensual sex does not rise to the level of being an impeachable crime, either then, or now. so what the hell are you talking about? if all trump did was lie about consensual sex do you think democrats would be involved in this, instead of trump abusing the power of his office to bribe a foreign country to do his political bidding, and nothing to do with official US policy?

why, yes. as anyone who can read would know, or anyone who could hear, for that matter...and, I know, imagine a republican witness lying!!

The legal expert, Turley, the House Republicans called to try and defend Trump lied under oath in his testimony. what a shock!!

There were plenty of points that Turley was merely incorrect about — at one point he argued that the legal definition of bribery didn’t exist at the inception of our government, which seems like a pretty big thing for a history professor to get wrong. Turley also incorrectly asserted a number of times that Trump wasn’t being looked at for lying — but the House expanded its investigative scope specifically to cover the new evidence that Trump had lied to Robert Mueller in writing under oath, as uncovered during the Roger Stone trial.

But in an effort to drop a bombshell, Turley made a statement that was outright false about the Obama administration, saying that Obama’s Department of Justice failed to turn over documents during the “Fast & Furious” investigation, which is an outright lie.

The issue here is former Attorney General Eric Holder being held in Contempt of Congress — along party lines in a GOP-controlled House — for advising Obama to withhold only documents that “were not generated in the course of the conduct of Fast and Furious.” But the administration turned over everything else before that, and even ended up turning over those documents as well.

This is not an incorrect assertion or a mistake that Turley made — this is a lie, and one he didn’t even need to tell. Turley’s testimony appears to be made up of whole cloth and fashioned entirely for the purpose of creating soundbites for Fox News. Perhaps, as some have suggested, Turley is auditioning for the Supreme Court.
