Day’s End
It is the end of day
It is the end of all my days
for now you are gone
the one I could not lose
And lo! The earth continues
as if it hasn’t noticed
Arise! Arise oh brazen Sun
(Thou damned officious star)
Thy presence is offensive now
But God ordains you should
Tho’ life and time refuse to pause
as I thought they surely would
But when my journey is complete
I’ll join you by and by
somewhere up in Coal Creek Canyon
where the mountains meet the sky
So yet these many years I wait
for the clock to strike again
growing old and gray, alone
just waiting for Day’s end
