Because everything about America has always been fiction. One hominid one vote is always and forever to be avoided by whatever means necessary.

Why, some folks are so bamboozled they join/support one party only to forever lament the party they chose just can't get it done for them because … that other party.

Identity politics is American politics, has been from day one, let's see if we can recall. A system in which only white male members of the aristocracy are/were granted "the right" to vote, not "endowed by their creator" with it, and a senate appointed by the aristocracy, not voted upon at all.
