It took one year for the USA to defeat Imperial Japan (3 more before the Emperor admitted it to himself), while simultaneously prosecuting a war in Europe, and another year or so to transform it into an American-style Democracy. For how long now have we been "advancing Democracy" in the ME? Obama campaigned on getting the USA out of there. Why are we still there? Trump campaigned on getting us out of there. Why are we still there?
It ain't to "make the world safe for Democracy."

And I do believe that answer supersedes my thoughts that it might be guilt.

Except we're not talking about workers & farmers; we're talking about modern "leftists" and they haven't been the workers & farmer or a long time. Used to be, when communism offered them dreams of a better life and the day's Democrats promised them opportunity to reap their just rewards. Then the dream became a nightmare and the promises turned out to be lies.

The producers left the "left" and the "left" is left with only government workers, kids, certain minority sub-groups, and other non-producers -- all of whom the "leftist" politicians seek to increase in number by hook or by crook -- plus some unionized workers still clinging to dashed hopes. That's the Democrat base now. Been that way for a while.

You have point. Still, the "left" -- broadly defined, as it is in fact broad -- generally votes Democrat. As well, the Democrat party is attracting the harder left (the Fabian-ish Socialists, the neo-communists, etc.) as the Republicans are attracting the alt-right and libertarian voters. Lumping Democrats into a broad "left" is valid.

I've recently taken to (re)learning French and German. French because it's a really cool language and about as artistic and right brained as a language can get. And German because it is my ancestry and about as scientific and left brained as a language can be. But I'm trying something different this time. I'm trying to immerse myself as much as possible translating a couple newspapers, listening to streaming radio, and foreign films. We'll see how it goes. Subtitle of this top post should be

How Bad Hollywood Is Pissing Me Off.

I'm interested both in the truth about Europe (because the US may not be far behind--see video above) and what Europeans are thinking and talking about (see the references to newspapers--NOT a source of truth but more a source of national discussion--and films).

Turns out there are some pretty damn good films made outside of Hollywood (Go fig!).
Made in France is one of them.

I'm not entirely convinced a film like this could be made in America. Sure, there have been movies about terrorism here but usually like The Hurt Locker it's done at arms length. This one brings it very close to home. . .if you're European. It's pretty damn uncompromising. I can imagine the jackass protests in Portland and Los Angeles if such a movie were made here and opened here.

I'm also interested in how lefties in America counter this evidence--this "suicide of Europe" with perhaps America not far behind. How do they reconcile their buried and suffocating professed "love" for America and 1st Amendment freedoms with the incontrovertible evidence of lethal harm their policies and support are doing to the western world.

So what say you, lefties? Nothing to worry about? Gotta force feed compassion to the masses?

Christians are no better! What about the 500 year old Inquisition? Muslims are overwelmingly peaceful with just the teeny tiniest portion of them being mad killers! (I have a jar of 5000 M&Ms. Only one is laced with cyanide. If you don't eat a single one for fear of being killed you will be labeled a racist, bigot, Neo-Nazi, gun nut, thrown out of civil society and worse. Eat up.) Not very "pragmatic" of you if you ask me.
